I am thinking eventually i will swap out my 500 gb hdd in my Sager Np8170 for an SSD drive and put a 1 tb or more hdd in the secondary bay. So i am hoping when i do so i can swap the old 500 gb hdd into my ps3. But i have no clue if it's the same size a ps3 uses. I figured it would be.

Yes it'll work on the PS3, it accepts any 9.5mm height 2.5" sata hdd.
