Can someone please convince me one or the other. I dont mind either screen size, and I understand the 5793 is "older tech". I just want to know is it worth it to go with the 8662. I'll be mainly gaming and I know the 9800GTS should be able to handle all the games I'll be playing, such as far cry 2, UT3.

    Thanks!

The NP8662 is better and future upgradeable. The 5793 is cheaper, has some extras like blu-ray, but is a bit outdated, older/weaker components but still decent.

Personal choice. I'd go for the Np8662 for future possibilities.

I'm not so sure this is necessarily true. Far be it from me to say with certainty, but I've posted 2 threads that have discussed the future proofing of the NP8662 over the last few days and the conclusions I drew were that neither machine is that future proof since:

    • both are built on MXM 2.1 which is EOL. MXM 3.0 based Clevo's and the associated GPU's and Mobo's will be out later this year and there's no guarantee that 2.1 will continue to be supported
    • you can't fit a 280M into an 8662 - I asked - and was told it would blow the thermal budget. So where do you upgrade / replace to...from a 260M. Only way I see it being possible is if Nvidia creates there 40nm 200 series graphics cards with an MXM 2.1 flavor which I doubt they will do...they'll all be MXM3.0.
in terms of what would be upgradeable / replaceable in the np8662, all I see is potentially the cpu.

Bottom line, how much difference will I see in games?

You'll see 20% with the 260M over the 9800M GTS. If your question is: "Is the NP8662 worth the $200 more than the 5793?", the answer is most definitely yes.
