I was getting really interested in the Sage NP5793, then i noticed it was glossy :( From what i've heard, it can be a pain to use it for extended time under light due to reflections.

My question is.. what is "super clear" glossy? Is the type of glossy used here something i can see for myself at a bestbuy?

It`s just a name for Glossy. Other glossy terminologies are Crystal view, glassview, brightview, etc.
If the glossy effect bothers you,you can always get a screen protector with a matte effect.

It's won't bother you much once you get used to it.I was also wary of it,but now it's ok.But I use mine at home all the time.

I'm in well lit environments all the time! Infact I seem to love glossy... this was one of the things I was most scared about, just like yourself... But I'm too damn happy now! :) Love how shiny it is!! :D *drools*

Really? Thats one of the main issues i had with the version in your Sig. Hmm..

Can you compare the type of glossy it has to any instore one? I wanna see for myself. If i can get over the glossy issue then i think i'll jump ship to the sager.

Well, as I'm typing this message, I can see the reflection of the TV behind me that dad is watching.... But like anything else, you don't really notice it till you actually try to and go out of the way to do.... as in, you'd only notice the reflections due to the glossy screen only if you strain your eyes and bother seeing it... Else, when you're actually busy with your work or games, it's not even noticeable..... and this is when I'm now in a very lit living room. AFAIK it's not as "glossy" as Sony laptop screens I've seen in stores, but it's still an amazing screen nonetheless.... truly fantastic! :D

One thing to note, the glossy will be much brighter than most matte screens out there.
It`s the main reason I went for glossy. A good matte is hard to find.

It really depends on your panel.
Mine is the same as Chaz`s earlier 579x review, LPB something. Although not the best one yet, surely it`s bright enough for just about anybody, which could be clearly seen from my early youtube vids.
Sure,I`d love dual lamp or LED,but that`s messed up in price.I`d rather get a 24inch LCD and game on that :)

I really like my glossy screen, it is bright enough in relation to the vast majority of screens and the reflective effect isn't as bad as my previous glossy screen yet it is still very clear.

Eleron, I've tried Everest Ultimate Edition myself... and to no avail. I must have gone through almost every line in every page in that software :) But no mention of "LG" or anything else, or a model number, or anything similar.... just "Generic PnP monitor" :)

Super duper ultra powerful brightlight clearview Glare-type sun-reflecting mega clear
    glossy screen... :D

Yes, most of the screens aren`t extraordinary. But they`re bright enough for a laptop. At least it`s enough for me, although a brighter, less grainier one would awesome. And pricey too...

The panel in my 5793 is glossy. It's very nice. The glare might be annoying if there's a bright light behind you and you're really sensitive to it. I do have a window behind me and while I do see a glare it doesn't bother me at all. On the other hand, the colors do 'pop' nice and font antialiasing (ie. Cleartype) effects seem to work better compared to a matte screen. The panel is also a good quality panel itself, as it does not suffer from angled viewing distortion and I have no problems when gaming.

The only real negative I see is that the glossy coating is not perfectly smooth, head-on it looks fine but if I look at an angle I can see a sort of wavy pattern in the coating. This is a really minor effect and does not hinder the experience at all.

I do use my laptop indoors, I haven't tried it out in the Bay area sun yet.

I`ve used my laptop in the park a few times, and the glare is not as bad as people might think.
It can`t beat a matte in this chapter, but it`s still visible enough in strong light souced areas.

PC Microworks has a matte non-gloss option for the NP5793 (Horizon ZX3) 1920x1200 screen if that's your thing.

    http://www.pcmicroworks.com/horizon.htm

Also here's a quick pro/con glossy vs matte breakdown from the xoticpc website:

    Glossy Screens

    Pros:

    * Screen will have a shiny, reflective finish.
    * Colors are vibrant.
    * Images are crisp and sharp.
    * Glossy finish does not produce a textured look.
    * Angle viewing is much better than a matte screen

    Cons:

    * Fingerprints and smudges are more noticeable.
    * Glossy screen's produce a glare, making them difficult to see from certain angles. (Depending on the environment your in)

    Matte Screens

    Pros:

    * Fingerprints and smudges are not as visible.
    * Glare is significantly reduced with matte screen's.

    Cons:

    * The texture of matte finish can make a screen look grainy.
    * Colors are usually less vibrant on a matte finish.

    Hope this helps :dunno:
