Has anyone else with this 2.8ghz chip seen heat issues?
i bought a refurbished sager 8660 and noticed this immediately. The CPU was downclocking after about 40 minutes of gaming.

I removed the heat syncs, cleaned all the vents, re-applied TIM properly, and closer her back up. Temps dropped 10 degrees under load but were still throttling after about an hour of gaming. (less using Prime95).

So, i started looking at the voltage. It looks like the chip was receiving 1.33v. Intel specs call for: 1.050V-1.162V

    http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLB47

I used CrystalCPUID to lower the voltage to 1.1 at 10.5 and the temps dropped to what i consider acceptable with an hour of Priming. (under 80C).

So, my question is: why are the Sagers sending so much voltage by default to the chip? Is anyone else having a heating problem?

    Thanks.

I have a M570TU with T9600 from a Norwegian reseller, and it works perfectly out of the box with correct voltage ranges and very good temperatures. I have not heard of anyone with a 8660 having the overvolting issue you have either, so my guess is that this is a problem with your machine specifically. I'd contact Sager and see what they have to say about it.

Once I get home from work I'll try to remember to check the ranges of mine, but according to this page the range for T9600 is 1.05V-1.2125V. Still, 1.33 seems very high.

    What exactly were your temps?

im wondering if the guy who sold it to me did a volt-mod. the cpuid VID is 1.336. at this VID, the core temps get to 85c and downclock themselves.

i am ok with using the crystalmarkcpuid program to manually set my vid at startup. i paid <1000 for this baby on ebay and can live with it.

can one of you guys tell me the voltage that cpuid is reporting when it is running at the 10.5 multiplier?

    thanks.
