So I'm probably gonna be putting in the order for my 5796 this week, maybe even tonight. Seeing as this is gonna be my main machine for college I was kinda tossing around the idea of getting a TV tuner form Sager... It would probably save me from bringing a TV to college at least for a while if it works good, and the machine's HDMI output means I can always plug it into a bigger TV if I do get one down the line. I was just curious if anyone on here has had any experience with the tuner than Sager offers with their machines before I bite the bullet and go for it.

A few things to consider here:

You have two digital standards: NTSC in the US, and DVT-B for ... the rest of the human race. So you might want a card that does both.

Then you have the Treacherous Computing, sorry 'Trusted' Computing compliant O/S known as 'Vista', that, as you probably know, needs to handshake your tuner before kindly letting you watch certain content at HD. Vista may also decide to stop you recording things if a) you resemble Johnny Depp, or b) the broadcasters don't want you to. But I guess Sager would not sell something that Vista didn't like, so only an issue if you do some shopping of your own.

Other than that, it is a great gadget, and I have an after market one for use as a PVR. For me, the Nirvana would be a tuner that also lets me plug in a subscription TV decoder card, but I couldn't find one of those in Europe for PCIe (and want to minimize the number of USB baggage).

Thanks for the input. I do belive the one offered by Sager should be Vista compatible (I plan on dual booting XP and vista on this machine anyway so that should be irrelevant) but I do not believe it supports the DVT-B standard. I don't plan on taking it outside the US though and if I do, probably not watching TV on it, so I think I'll be fine there. Here is a link to the model Sager offers, from their website.
