    Hey all,

Just got done customizing a NP8660 on sagernotebook.com. All gussied up she is costing $2,425. I live in Canada (Ontario) so I realize that this is a USD price. What I do not know is if taxes are in on that price or not. I'm assuming not. I just need to know so because ill have to pay duties on it when it comes into the country, so it might actually be cheaper for me to go with another lappy than to pay for this one. Anyone know if taxes are in on the sager and xoticpc sites?

You wouldn't pay duties on a laptop but you do legally have to pay taxes for anything you buy in Canada, assuming you're a Canadian citizen and you plan on keeping the purchase in Canada. Even if you ship from the states, you can't have your purchase until you pay the taxes. If you bought the laptop from a Canadian retailer you still would be paying your GST and PST.

At 13%, $2500 laptop will cost you an extra $300. The only way of getting around this is buying the laptop in the states and sneaking it over the border, but that's tax evasion (and Sagers don't sell retail to my knowledge.)

Yes I agree, I do not wish to evade taxes, but I was unaware that Sager had a Canadian outlet.

Don't waste your time. They're seriously overpriced.

Sales taxes are never figured into the price in the US, it is always added on to the price because the tax rates are so different in each city, county and state. They all add their own local tax rate on top of the advertised price.

Sager does sell retail, as does Xoticpc and PowerNotebooks.com (however only Sager and Xoticpc ship to Canada).

In addition to your applicable GST and PST you will have to pay brokerage when you ship to Canada via Ground, but if you ship Expedited or Express the brokerage is included in the shipping fee.

I'll add my input here, I haven't ordered a laptop crossborder(yet) but buy alot from the states.

Most sites as said will not charge sales taxes on the price, but instead add this at checkout, since it's a canadian sale they wouldn't add any. Taxes are instead collected at the boarder and arrive as a COD on your order, Your look at 13% plus brokerage fees. UPS is horrible for shipping, I've been slapped with $60-80 brokerage fees PLUS the tax, but as pointed out that only applies to ground orders, if expedited or express don't have those, it's well worth the extra cost (which you would pay more anyways usually) to go expedited) I find USPS a great option if it's available and while I haven't used it myself, I hear fedex is more reasonable then UPS
