After several months of research and asking questions here {and waiting for the funds to arrive}, I finally ordered my new toy. I ordered a 9262 from Xoticpc.

    E8600 CPU
I was choosing between the 8600 and the 9650. I opted for the 8600 because I did not think the 9650 was worth the extra money right now. This is a gaming machine and few games need or use Quad cores. And I can upgrade later.

    9800M GTX SLI
This is a gaming machine. Makes no sense to get a single card.

    320GB 5400 rpm
I am not likely to see much difference with a higher speed HD and I am nowhere near filling my 80GB interanl and 160GB external in the laptop I have. Newer games will need more space, but 320 is more than enough now and upgrading should be easy.

    1920x1200 screen
Just didn't make any sense not to get the higher resolution.

    XP Home
I have to admit this was a little bit of fear. I've read many horror stories about Vista not running games {and knew some of these were operator error instead of OS}. In the end, the only reason to get Vista is DX10 which seems to be a flop after all the hype that came with it. Again this is an area that can be upgraded in the future if needed.

I want to thank you all for your support and help.

Congrats on your new monster machine.

I question the choice of the dual core though.

This machine will last you for years and for 50 bucks more than the E8600 you could have the Q9550.

More and more games/programs will be using quad core very soon... there's no reason not to code something for multithreading now.

Few games need quad core, but just as few games need a few more MHZ in their cpus as almost everything is GPU limited.

But once something is coded for multithreading, it will make all the difference, two cores vs four.

Of course, you can always upgrade cpu later... few hundred bucks ain't so bad I guess.

spend the 50 now for the 9550 or spend 3 times as much later. and the 9550 is a nice fit for the 9262

sorry, but makes no sense to get a dual core either. this is a gaming machine. (personal opinion)

extra drives can be added later at a cost of about 50 to 100 bucks. also user installable. and they give you all the brackets and screws for this.

    very true

i can run every single game fine under vista 32 bit...64 bit is quite another story. you wont get super high 3dmark06 scores with vista, but it runs games fine. remember...it's still a laptop and not a desktop(desktop replacement-lol)

i agree with all the response that getting a quad is much more better for gaming purpose, especially in online gaming. but hey, your right, you can upgrade later on when the price drop down or something. im amaze how the 9262 can have so many upgrade option much like a desktop, your lucky to have one dude.... lolz XD

Quad now! It will be more expensive and time consuming later. Many games are multi-core optimized. GTA IV screams for Quad. Crysis loves quads, FSX maxes all cores you can throw at it. UT III utilized it well, and many upcoming games, such as Alan Wake, are going to depend on quads.
