Didn't realize it until I came back to college, the fan noise is ridiculously annoying, especially when I'm working on the essays in my room. It distract me so much.

    thats strange.

do you have the latest firmware revision for the fan toggles?

I just played on a friend's M570RU-U and his fan toggles did not have vibration issues.

Maybe you should check to see if the keyboard is firmly seated.

maybe you should get the fan(s) replaced... since its still under warranty.

I do not think you even need to send in your whole system.

Contact your vendor and ask them to cross-ship you new fans... then you send the old ones back after you receive the new ones.

Remember dude, I started the whole thing that led to the med speed firmware.
The fans are simply noisy, you can`t do anything about that.
I`ve ran the laptop without the back panel, and WOW, they`re even noisier this way.
They need new FANS, I tell ya, it`s ridiculous.
My XPS at full blast is nowhere near as noisy as this thing on auto/med mode. It`s why I sold it...

    hey Nirvana,
the guy next to my room has a sager 5793 with a X9000 on it! I also notice that the noise is really loud when he's working on his paper!
    I think that's just a normal problem :)

Is this thing loud enough that it would be embarrassing to pull out and use during class? All I would use it for is taking notes, but some of my classes are very quiet and I don't want to buy this if it's going to be a disturbance.

Mine only gets loud when gaming and stuff like that. With normal web browsing the noise was minimal.

Ive heard you can either have the fans on Auto or Medium, do they ever turn off? Or does this laptop require that they run at all times? I thought this thing wouldn't be very practical, but if it is quiet enough for a class I may take another look at it.

Mine will turn off completely when I'm working in a location near freezing. Sadly though, thats the last place I really care about sound. No Fn+3 for me :( 5796 is loud loud loud too.

Use RM Clock and drop your voltages down for each p-state by .0375v. I'm idling much cooler and the fans are humming instead of racing now.

there is an undervolting guide around here somewhere that tell you how to do it, but if you pull the volts down enough, you'll be quite as can be :)

Yeah this is what i did some time ago and my fans rarely get loud at all. I used the 'performance on demand' profile so that my cpu never bumps the multiplier past 1x unless there is some intense task.

Yup thats it. And it works so well!! I noticed the CPU rarely scales down while on AC power. Using RM Clock makes the system quieter, cooler, and last longer!
