    Hi everyone

First off I apologize if this thread is inappropriate here. I think it should be OK here but I guess it could fit in the hardware forum too.

My question is, how would the Sager NP2090 compare in gaming performance to my current (aging) desktop?

The notebook would be configured as follows:

    2.0ghz C2D
    2gb RAM
    80gb 7200RPM hd

    My desktop is like this:

P4 3.0ghz (one of the first HT CPUs)
    1gb RAM
    80gb 7200rpm
7800gs AGP (this was the best AGP card out for a while - I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I think it is. It's comparable between a 6800GT and 6800 Ultra)

One game in particular that I'm really curious about is Oblivion. It runs poorly on my desktop - sometimes it runs acceptable, but in many areas of the game it's just too choppy for me.

I don't like to game with all the options cranked to the max - usually I'm OK with 1280x1024 with some anisotropic filtering and NO AA. Sometimes even 1024x768 is OK but I'd like to finally move past that res in most of my games!

Thanks for any info you all might be able to give!

    Molly

Your desktop graphics card is about equal to the 2090 graphics card. The 2090's CPU is alot faster then your old Pentium 4.

You wont be able to play Oblivian at maximum at higher resolutions with the 8600M GT. It will run a bit better on the 2090 then on your desktop because it has 2GB of ram.

Hmm, I guess that is a little disappointing to hear about the video card, but for a laptop that's still pretty impressive.

So I take it the only thing faster than the 8600GT in a laptop is the 7950GTX?

7950 GTX is the fastest notebook graphics card out currently.

    According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GT.3986.0.html

There are several graphics cards that have the potential to out perform the 8600m, especially when you consider the fact that the card they tested was more like the stock 8600m in the higher-clocked Asus G1s. The Go 7900 GS, 7800 GTX, and the 7900 GTX all have higher 3dmarks. Judging from that I would imagine that it will not be a noticeable upgrade from the 7800gs.

It still is a great card for laptops though, the best infact for any 15.4 inch option. (except when you consider the Asus G1s)

The 8600mGT is better then 7800GS AGP, not by much, but it is better. Otherwise the entire rest of the laptop is better then the desktop and would more then likely out perform your desktop in everything.

Not to mention the 8600mGT is DX10 capable so you have that.

From what I've heard, Oblivion has been playable...people said they've averaged 30FPS or so on medium settings, I think.
