So you bought a powerful, expensive laptop that you intend to use to play the latest games and run power-hungry applications. Did you really expect it to be whisper quiet? When running anything other than a game, my machine doesn't get uncomfortably loud. I understand you may not want the fans to start blazing during class and whatnot - just don't play games in the middle of class? I don't know, but almost every thread I've read today deals with noise levels, so I added another to the heap. I just realized my error.

Like getting a muscle car but wanting it to sound like an electric one?
-
lol they buy a firehawk, start it up, then complain that the engine is loud when they are idling. I need to get a link to the most expensive macbook pro and the razer laptop for those people.
-
I never understood people whining about fan noise either. I have a np5793 and a np7280, both laptops are huge and power hungry machines, and the fan noise has never once bothered me. It is nothing but a bit of background noise that after a while you don't even hear. Some people just have unrealistic expectations.
-
Well for me it was a problem. But the 7970M runs really cool and I have not had issues with fan noise. It's been much quieter than I expected. It was something I was apprehensive about, but frankly I didn't want AW or MSI due to their childish appearance and Asus has let me down so many times in the past. Clevo was pretty much it for me, didn't matter if I didn't like the fan noise or not. Thankfully, it's been a pleasant surprise.
I would definitely not buy a dual GPU Clevo due to fan noise. But I wouldn't expect it to be quiet either. -

My old laptop was very loud even when I wasn't doing anything about it. Sometimes the fans would go too fast and overheat or something and the laptop would crash, so I had to keep it running in "stealth mode" to prevent them from hitting max speed. This laptop is extremely quiet. I played Just Cause 2 yesterday and my speaker sound covered the slight hum the laptop was making.

Those are nice. They probably could design a notebook to be powerful and quiet but it would also cost way up there like that. -
I`m 100% certain that the notebook manufacturers could easily have made a much more quieter notebook than what is made now. Problem is that too few people care and that it likely will increase cost more, and since their margins to compete against other notebook manufacturers who give a damn with noise that can offer the same hardware for a lower price, is so slim, they won`t even attempt to make a quiet notebook.
-
Not to mention it would probably have to be bigger in size in order to have that silent cooling capability. There's only so much you can do in such little space.
People just need to be realistic. Same with battery life. They buy a laptop with a powerful video card and complain about poor battery life. Derp. -

Prop and paste I'm finding are the two best things you can do to cool your laptop, usually no cooler even required. Just buy a tube if IC Diamond $7, bottle of rubbing alcohol $2, roll of paper towel $1, and a set of cool balls, $2. 10 minutes of your time, and you're good to go! The copper heatsinks can't hurt either, and are pretty cheap too and easy to apply. None of this voids your warranty.

In the end, all the noise whiners are 99% college kids who want to play video games in class and not get caught. I say pay attention to your bloody classes.
-
It's a point of comparison. If one gaming notebook is quieter than the other, why would you not consider that?
-
Oh and by the way, most people complain about the high noise while in office work, not while gaming. And as almost everyone fails to notice, noise sensivity varies. What you find unnoticable might be annoying for someone else. -
At the moment the quietest gaming notebook is the Asus's G73/74/75 series, however the best they offer is only up to GTX670M. For those who got used to GPU performance that's equal to or above a GTX580M or HD6990M they wouldn't go for 670M.

Is that a poor attempt at trolling or you really don't use your head? Have a look at the threads down this board. I don't need a crystal ball when everyone already posts their complaints.
-
No that's just a sarcastic remark to an ignorant claim.
-
I don't really care if anyone thinks the what I did to get the temps I have is ridiculous or not. All I know is it never gets above 65C when I'm playing ME3 for 3 hours with some co-op fun and it never goes above 74C when I'm playing Witcher 2 on ultra except for the super-sampling thing. That's without a cooling pad and without propping it up.
