    Hi all,

I recently purchased a NP5793 from Eurocom in February.
This laptop is great in terms of performance, but compared to my old Inspiron 9400 in terms of noise, it's absolutely awful.

Under load, this laptop even makes more noise than my desktop! And that is BAD for a laptop. So I'm seriously thinking of selling it / returning it to Eurocom or whatever, to get my money back. It's just too much noise for me, I can't live with it.

So my question is, I have owned this laptop for 2 months now, and I payed $2000 for it back then. How much do you think I could sell it for now? Also, is it in any way possible to get my money back from Eurocom, considering it's been 2 months?

If they believe you that it took 2 months for you to realize that the laptop was noisy then they will give you all your money back... but I highly doubt it.

Best bet is to put it on Ebay. You might be able to get around 1600-1700.
    What are your specs BTW?

What are the specs of your laptop? Without knowing the specs and condition, it's hard to give an estimate.

One thing you could do is to downclock your GPU through ATI Tool. You can also use speedfan to control the speed of your fan.

I tried SpeedFan, but it doesn't seem to detect any of the fans...so I'm not able to control them through the program.

I'm considering running the fans at Fn+3 (mid) while under load, cause they make a lot less noise then...but the temps go way up.
The CPU hits 70-80 easily, and the GPU goes to maybe 90 degrees...don't know if that's so good for the laptop, but at least it takes the noise away.

EDIT: Oh and the specs are:
    NP5793
    T7250 CPU
    2GB RAM
    160GB 5400 RPM HDD
    8800M GTX.

Download the latest Sager firmware from here :
    http://64.208.175.44/pages/notebooks/download.cfm?ProductType=5792
The last thing on the page, the firmware thing.
Start Nero, Backup, burn image to disk(burn the firmware iso) , then boot with that cd into the drive, follow instructions and the laptop will become much quieter,I guarantee.

Hey zfactor, you know that screen that shows up during POST. The one with the Sager logo. Did your 1.00.08 bios version keep the Sager icon. I downloaded 1.00.08 from the Clevo site and now I have a "style note" icon. It's just a little thing, but it bothers me. I want people to know that it's a Sager. If you have the Sager image 1.00.08, do you think you could post the bios file here?

    Thanks,
    Dan

This is actually why I'm leaning towards the 9262, I hears it runs cooler and quieter than the 5793 not only idle, but at load too, did I hear wrong?

no style note is the barebones or direct from clevo systems... the sager logo has been added to the bios files specifically for sager..as other companies do. mine has always says style note as i bought mine as a bare bones system.

i may be able to swap the image to say sager on the clevo bios depends how its setup. let me play with it and see. but you say that they 1.00.07 from sager web site says 1.00.08 when booting up?? if so they should be the same firmware sager just didnt change the download number yet.

    To zfactor

No, there are two Sager BIOS, one called 1.00.08s for extreme cpus and the 1.00.07 for all others. Neither of them is available for download from the Sager website. There is a fan firmware called 1.00.07h, you might have mixed this up with the BIOS.

Oh, okay so you also have the style note image with the 1.00.08 BIOS. I kind of assumed you were able to get a hold of a Sager 1.00.08s BIOS, because you call your barebones a Sager np5791 in your sig. :)

    Oh well, thanks anyway,
    Dan

Well I have already downloaded the fan firmware, I have the newest one. The 1.00.7Sh one. Fans are still VERY load compared to my Inspiron 9400.

I mean, sure the temps are maybe 5-6 degrees celcius cooler than my old Inspiron 9400, but it's still not worth it for that much noise...
