I've installed a 7970M on my NP8690/W860CU and it worked good expect one thing, that it worked at core 300MHz and mem 1200MHz when idle.I only used the monitor on my laptop,so this idle clock seems abnormal. However,if I used a external monitor and only use it,the idle clock dropped down to core 300MHz and mem 150MHz.If I used both monitors or just my defeat monitor on laptop, the idle clock stucked at core 300MHz and mem 1200MHz.I don't do any overclocking. For now,I disabled Powerplay in CCC and it dropped down to core 300MHz and mem 150MHz and enable Powerplay for play 3D games manual.I've tried different vbioses and it is the same,so I think it is not the card issue, maybe the screen?Does anybody have any idea?

check the 7970m thread in my sig, it provides an option to overclock/underclock via amd overdrive. thats what i use to force my 7970m to idle clocks whenever im more in need of a cool silent machine rather than endless powah :)

its the first post, last update.

It's a good idea. But to me,it's the same as enable/disable powerplay,'cause the clock is locked up to 300/150 in both methods. But urs it's more usefull if I wanna do overclocking.Thank u for ur reply!Well,I'm really wondered how the idle clock be so abnormal.I've tried different versions of driver,it is the same anyway.

It may be something of their flicker patch which was caused by changing memory speeds not quite working right.

Yeah, shame it's kind of expensive to check that :/
