Hi all, just to share my concerns ...

Today I came across the Asus G2S-A1 at the price of 2099 dollars.

It seams that ASUS will be a strong competitor in this market as it is marketing next generation gaming laptops at very reasonable prices. Let me tell you if I bought today an M570U I would have to pay around 2.184 dollars with the benefit of having a Go 7950GTX on it and nothing more. The rest would be underspecified in comparison.

The D900C at it's minimum specs is arround 2.305 dollars. Yes the Clevo D900C is faster but has no HDMI out and other goodies and the hard drive at the minum spec is one of 80GB and it's heavier.

Considering that the D900 series are usually more or less the same price of 570U's, this makes me wonder if Clevo will still have the edge in terms of pricing/performance for the next generation laptops.

The fact that it has a 7950GTX compared to a 7700 is not exactly trivial, you know?

I know, honestly, I would not write this if I didn't. But apart for the graphics cards the specs of the Asus are really impressive ... and the card is really not that bad. I wonder if customer should still be paying premium prices for a entusiast card that is market dead in a couple of months (when the new entusiasts cards come)

Well that is going to be the responsibility of the consumer. You are right, the 7950gtx will be dead in terms of market leadership in a few months. That is why I am waiting for the 8700gt. I was wondering the same thing though and determined that the difference in price is because of the graphics card and I think it is worth it.

Yes maybe, I'm still meditating on it, but a premium next generation machine with a quote of 3000 Euros (I live in Portugal) should have HDMI and HDCP from the start I think. Especially for me as I'm thinking about connecting it to 1080p LCD.

Clevo prices usually don't include the OS, that is easily +170 dollars for Vista. Some of them not even bluetooth (well my seller does not).

"Well that is going to be the responsibility of the consumer."

I know, I'm one. Just sharing some thoughts and get some feedback. I bet I'm not the only one thinking about this.

According to Hypersonic. The Clevo 900C has:

    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 SLI
    1024MB DDR SGRAM on board
    16X PCI-Express Architecture
External VGA, DVI, HDMI, and TV Out Support

Edit: I think maybe their site is wrong... I don't see it listed anywhere else.

Well... I can confirm that the Clevo D900C has DVI with HDCP...

meaning that it can be connected to a Full HD (1080p) display with DVI or HDMI (using an DVI-HDMI adapter or cable).
