    The HOME key location!!!!

Being a petite girl, I have little fingers, so I don't know how everyone else gets on with this. I have to say though, I am extremely close to ripping out the HOME key.

Why on God's earth did they locate it so closely to the backspace key???

I'm so sick of trying to type something quickly in online gaming chat (too shy to use my headset mic as yet), only to find that my sentence has been totally messed up by an accidental press of the HOME key which makes whatever you are typing end up at the start. And it's not just in gaming chat... it's obviously the same case in WORD and other programs where I need to type.

    An example being:

so close to the backspace key.I haven't got a clue why they put the HOME key

Which should have read: " I haven't got a clue why they put the HOME key so close to the backspace key."

Does everybody else find this annoying?

You could remap your keyboard so home = something else or even disable it.

I've never used a HOME key either... I don't even like it. It's just so sneaky and seems to get me pressing it accidentally!

Seriously? I got big guy fingers, pressing backspace and mistakingly hitting home has never been an issue for me. Maybe its your perception of the positioning of the keys. Like for instance, I have trouble making 'smileys'. Because my perception of where the 0 and - and = signs are basically the same because I have grown accustomed doing it on my toshiba laptop so much its become 'automated' in my mind. So I end up doing :- or :=

    :) There got it.

I downloaded the above program, but the HOME key isn't showing on there. It only shows backspace but the HOME key is next to that to the right. As a result, I can't customise from that program. I'll try searching google now.

That's a bummer :( Well, I know it can be done, just have to find the right mapping software. Good luck!

What I would like to know is if the m860tu keyboard can be changed into a smooth one. The textured one is starting to get to me, especially if I have even the slightest of an uncut nail, the scraping over the surface can make my blood curl. lol.

What I don't really understand about the keyboard layout is the SLEEP Fn key is between the MUTE and VOL. LOW. I would expect the mute button to be beside the Vol.Low. but instead, its the sleep key so I keep hitting it everytime I want to mute :(

Lol, yep that's something I noticed too. However, I have volume control on my MX Revolution mouse so I barely utilize the on keyboard volume to get annoyed.

However, I agree, you can put your laptop to sleep just wanting to mute the system. I guess remapping would work on that, just switch the functionality of the keys.

Yes I have also hit the sleep button thinking I was gonna mute. But the biggest thing for me is the CPU whining it drives me crazy. And my hotkey drivers don't work properly....doesn't show in the top left corner when I change volume or display.
Other than that I absolutely love this laptop and couldn't be happier :)
It's blazingly fast (vista boots and is ready to go in 36 seconds) and I actually like the keyboard.

heres what i find annoying (and frankly im surprised there hasnt been a thread on this) is the location of the standby function key!!!

they thought it would be a good idea to have it go Volume Up - Volume Down - Stand By - Mute ?!?!?

why couldnt they just switch the mute and stand by key??? i'm always paranoid when im adjusting my volume or trying to mute something because im afraid im going to accidentally put my computer to sleep at the worst time, and ive done it at least twice already.

The keyboard really screw up lol. I would prefer if I can turn on/off the wireless/bluetooth using just one hand but its too far away. Yeah.. the sleep button, nice :D.

I think they put all the devellopement team on the CPU/GPU and cooling and left other stuff like the HDD and the keyboard :D

Well, it would have been the first successful attempt of getting a desktop replacement graphics card in a 15" laptop without overheating, and with the failure of the m15x, they really had to put most R&D on that. I'm glad they did, because things like the HDD can easily be sorted out with a cooler and the keyboard can easily have a replacement later on or just have remapped keys.
