    hi guys and girls.

first time poster here, so. HI.

I have browsed the forums a bit about the problem, and found quite a few similar issues, with the 480m and the 460m gpus.

Currently i have the driver that came with the laptop, 259.51. Here are my questions :

    a) which drivers should I download, most of the ones ive tried give me that non compatible graphics hardware, or some funny business like that.

    b) im really new to sli, since its my first setup. How important is to keep updating the sli profile for games, doesnt "force alternative rendering" do all that its supposed to ??

    c) my usual gpu load temps are 65-70 and cpu also. I am a bit frightened since my previous pentium 3 OC was in the 40s.

    with wonderful regards.

    yours, velebrz.

    Hello and welcome aboard!

    a) You can try the latest modded drivers from here, you will need to download the driver and the modded INF file.

    b) Up to you. Worth updating if you're not happy with the performance in those games.

    c) As for the temps, 70C is nothing to worry about, it's perfect for gaming temps. You should sleep well till 85C ;)

    hi Aiki,

    thank you for your input.

Ok that is good news about the temperatures. But I am worried again today, as yesterday I experienced first time, 81 C on one of the cards, I was using sli at the time.

I know you said 85 is the threshold for alert, but to prepare myself, what are the appropriate measures should things start to get out of hand ? I am afraid to open the notebook to apply paste change and such, doesnt that void my warranty ?? I paid some extra to have 36 months instant repair or exchange

    regards,

    velebrz

I don't think it would void your warranty, but if you don't want to open your laptop, the best thing you can do is to elevate the laptop and make sure there is enough ventilation around the it. That means ventilation at the back and bottom. Then again, if after hours of gaming it reaches 81, you don't have to worry about anything.

^^ That's true, elevating the bottom of the laptop will help a few degrees.

As for the warranty, it depends, you should check with your reseller. 81C is fine for a peak load temp, BTW.

    ok,

thank you very much for the input guys. I will try the elevation trick and keep an eye on the temps, and report here if anything starts to get south.

Right now if you head to nvidia and go to driver download section and choose geforce, then series 400, then 460m, then windows 7 64 bit, you get to download 260.99 notebook version.

AM i to understand these drivers won't work in my upcoming x7200 460m sli ?

"This driver will install on the following GPUs with the exception of some notebooks listed below:

    GeForce 400M series:
GeForce GTX 480M, GeForce GTX 460M , GeForce GT 445M, GeForce GT 435M, GeForce GT 425M, GeForce GT 420M, GeForce GT 415M,...etc"

that these models ARE supported, or that they are the exceptions ??

    hi guys.

have some new info. Today was the second time I got the message that my display driver crashed.

I dont have any OC on anything, temps in the low 40s idle, low 80s full load, driver 259.91

what can be the cause of this ??

at first I was skeptical with the modded inf files and newer drivers, but it is really easy and no hassle involved.

have the 263.06 drivers on, and it works perfect for now :))

Have you run any benches yet with this driver? Many times these new drivers may seem to work well but they drop you in bench scores. Please post your results if you can... :)

With the stock Sager drivers I did the below. This was with no OC of the CPU, just OC'ing the GPU... :)

    hi guys and girls (?)

    another update.

I dont know how or why, but suddenly the heat in my machine is about 10 degrees lower. When I was playing last week, the gpu temps were in the low 80s cpu 70s.

I cant remember for sure if this started after I updated my driver or not but now I get MAX 70 degrees on gpu and 65 on cpu. Nothing else has changed from my part.

    any ideas ? aliens ?

    Probably aliens.

Well if you think it's the driver, then revert back and see if the temperature is the same. Other than that, if you don't recall doing anything to lower the temperature, it might be your room.

I installed 263.09 from LV2Go yesterday. It took forever to load the drivers but everything seems to be working well.

Blood Bowl Legendary which crashed all the time seemed stable and I played a bit of L4D2. I will give the drivers a bit more of a workout this weekend.

can you try crysis and black ops as well and see if it performs better using the 263.09 drivers? that driver is compatible with 480m,right?

this december we are suppose to get a new driver version that supports laptop gpus so we wont need to do this modding crap.

By the way, what the hell is with this modding crap ?

I thought nvidia did their job well with the drivers.

All i want to do is go to their website and download a driver that works as is.
Really, is that to much to ask, for a working driver ?

I will pay 2500+ euros on my machine, i think the no hassle driver should be built in.

Im curious as to see what drivers will mysn provide.
I didnt bought any os with the machine, hopefully i\ll be gettin drivers on cd.

    hi Bytales.

I am of similar opinion as you.

I bought the machine from mysn also, without the OS. The stock drivers were 259.39 something like that I think. Good thing is you can use your account details to log in to the "support" site and download all the other stuff, and new stuff that comes updated.

The drivers worked good on their own, besides that "display driver crashed but recovered" crap, that I posted up there, but it didnt happen TOO often to be really disturbing. And it never happened during gaming, always when doing non demanding work, surprisingly.

@GTO PAO : I dont have those games, but I can confirm that I do have about 3-5 FPS increase ON AVERAGE in arma2 and arma2 operaton arrowhead, while using SLI. Which is quite a lot IMO.

    regards

I think it will be the 260.99 drivers as this is the driver they have listed under their download section.

As I placed my order (GTX460M SLI Config) 2 days ago, I could already access the support area with my customer account.

I hope it will take not much more then 1 week from now before the notebook will be delivered. Although MySN now states on their site the GTX460M will not be be available again before KW49 (until earlier this week it still was KW48)... :(

I guess we have to practice a little patience ;)

I have lv2go drivers also, without any problems whatsoever.

here is an informative question I would like to ask, before i try the setup down.

I have i7 960 @ 3.2, 12gb ram, crucial real c300 ssd and 480m sli. I never really got the cpu bottlenecking thing down, I remember having some weird results back in the day with 8800 ultra card, better fps at higher settings.

So would plugging my lappy into a 24 inch desktop display, have any better results performance wise at 1920X1200 instead of the notebooks native 1920x1080 ??

I do not have either of those games. I have played Battlefield BC2, L4D2, Fallout NV, and Blood Bowl Legendary with no problems.

BB Legendary would crash on me all the time with stock drivers. So far the 263.09s are great.

id say a 30% gain in performance in games with this oc I'm having no problems with heat but the psu is holding back the x7200,,with the new dual psu witch will be 600W and it will be released soon and some voltage on the gpu's the x7200 will score numbers that no other desktop replacement can score, dont get me wrong its a great machine as it is but its not for extreme use with this psu,,but look at it this way a 23k 3dm v notebook .....
