A week ago I downloaded CPUZ to see if my i7 620m's multiplier would drop if I got the chip hot enough and could not make the multiplier drop. I recently got HWInfo32 and found that at 80 degrees C, my clock speeds begin to get jumpy. They start to move between 3015 and 3060 MHZ. I'm not really sure if this is going to cause my games to slow down. Before removing my CPU sticker and reapplying thermal compound, my temps were in the high 80s and I didn't notice my performance drop. I've had some bugs with CPUZ so I'm curious if anyone knows exactly what causes the MHZ drop and if it will noticeably affect in game performance.

Clock readings in those programs is not 100% accurate, even intel's own turbo monitor was inaccurate. The i series is very dynamic and will constantly jump all over over the place depending on workload. If you're maxing out at 80*C, I wouldn't worry about it.

I actually max at 84 degrees with 100 percent load. None of my games so far have pushed the temps above 75 degrees

Give ThrottleStop a try. I'm a little biased but it accurately shows the average multiplier of each thread of your CPU and can detect CPU multiplier throttling better than any other tool.

You shouldn't be seeing any thermal throttling at 80C but you might be seeing some turbo throttling where turbo boost will start to rapidly cycle on and off. Run a ThrottleStop log file and post it here if you're not sure what it's telling you.

Did you remove the black sticker, my CPU temp never got above 78C, and even that 78C was after 10 min of prime95.

    Yeah, I did remove it.
