I think that I will be buying a Sager NP8690 today or tomorrow and I was wonder about a couple issues. Should I upgrade to the IC Diamond thermal compound or the regularly installed compound? Secondly do I need a laptop cooler or would a laptop desk work?

    Thanks

Is there a good video for this that you recommend?
Also is it just as simple as wiping off the old thermal paste and putting on the new? or do you need some kind of solvent?

Just use alcohol and it will come right off.

I like vodka, after a couple of trips to Russia, one acquires a taste for that beverage. But seriously, yes wood/rubbing alcohol (don't drink it, it will blind/kill you) will do the job. the trick is in applying the thermal paste of choice. It is best to go to the manufacturers web site for instructions as all pastes are not applied the same. Personally, I would rather apply it myself.

Excellent. I will use the remainder 101 proof Wild Turkey Bourbon Wiskey. I think I still have a enough left to completely submerge both my CPU and GPU simultaneously ensuring that the solvent wont be cross contaminated for either.

Great recommendation :) . I would hate to waste my Wild Turkey like that anyway. I will use this unopened bottle of clear Malibu rum so we can be certain it is free of germs. While Malibu isn't Halal certified, I am still confident that it will do the trick.

For someone who's shopped smart for years and years, go buy a $2 bottle of rubbing alcohol and call it a day.

For someone who doesn't want to shop all day, buy the first bottle of rubbing alcohol you see and use it for years and years.

Either way, rubbing alcohol is great for cleaning many surfaces. I bought a huge bottle years ago and have no regrets.

It's also great for making dry bombs for people you don't like.

After much deliberation I have finally come upon a solution. To prevent further mold or bacteria from growing with prolonged use and intense heat exposure, I have decided to use copious amounts of hydrogen peroxide to sterilize my CPU and GPU in preparation for the new IC diamond upgrade.

Thank you all for your advice. I trust that everyone will be satisfied with this compromise.

Why not just add some sulfuric acid to that H2O2 and make Parana, burn anything off that's still on there.

    Thermite is your friend.

Or nuke it from orbit... it's the only way to be sure.
