So I was thinking about getting the NP9370 while it still had its deals going, and I wanted a few thoughts from you guys on certain things.

    A. They're offering the Seagate XT Hybrid for free. I was thinking about either getting that or the Intel 520 SSD. How noticeable would the performance difference be?

    B. Is it worth it to get the copper cooling upgrade? I'm getting a GT680M on this machine, and I'm concerned about it running hot and not dissipating heat well.

    C. I was thinking of getting the 3820QM processor, but is that really necessary for gaming? If not, I'll just go with the stock CPU

Here's a preliminary configuration, for those wondering

Why wouldn't you just get the P170EM? Then you'd get good battery life.

Eh, I don't care too much about battery life. I won't be taking this laptop many places that would require it.

I would worry about the size.

I have a NP9170 and the first thing people say is, "wow that thing is huge.

Also, I bought a 17 inch laptop bag from timbuk2 that is supposed to be the right size, and it is a very tight fit.

The 370 is even bigger yet and requires a larger psu so before you decide to buy it, consider that you are not doing sli (at least right now) so there is no conceivable difference between the 370 you want to order and a 9170.

In fact, if you went with a 9170 you could either pocket the extra cash or use it to make the laptop even better yet.

Doesnt the 9370 offer a new latop case design.. with more cooling, better sound and of course no Enduro??? all sound like pluses to me even with a single GPU

Better cooling with a single gpu depends on if the master slot is the lone one or the one that shares a vent with the CPU.. If it's the shared, you'll get better temps with a 9170

    A. Get the free xt HDD now. Get an SSD later for cheaper elsewhere :) You will deifbitely notice the difference in booting and loading.

    B. You can get the cooper and apply it yourself. It's like $10 online from some source I've found. From reading the numbers, the decrease doesnt warrant the cost to me to get it done from reseller. That's my opinion :) If you have the money and are not comfortable doing hardware changes, then perhaps it is good idea. I hear the 680m runs surprisingly cool though :)

    C. If you have to ask then you don't need the upgrade. For gaming 3610qm is more than enough.

Doubtful, I doubt the cooling to be any better. If you actually look inside, the 9370 uses the same fans and same heatsinks and same radiators. And he's only getting a single 680M, which has no Enduro issues. So to me, it makes no sense to pay extra when he can get an additional 3 hours of battery and more portability for less money.

There are no enduro issues in the 9370 anyway as it doesn't have switchable graphics. Getting a 680m is just paying 300 more for no gain in performance. It only really makes sense in the 9170 and 9150 as optimus actually works.

So since I'm getting the single GPU, and I don't have plans to get another one for SLI, I might as well get the 9170?

Then I suppose the 9370 is basically for SLI. Is that why it's bigger?

Also, I heard that the 9170 had cooling issues, but that they are easily fixed. What would I need to do to go about fixing them?

Looks good. You could add an SSD later yourself. Maybe consider a matte screen (that's personal preference). Everything else is fine.

That is about what I have on mine, except I have a 675 instead of the 680. I like it fine, plus it came with a case that it fits in pretty well.

Also, in reference to the cooling system, I took my laptop apart before I ever even turned it on and it is pretty much perfect inside. I don't know if I was just lucky, but I haven't noticed excessive heat and I haven't felt the need to re-paste it or plaster it with tape.

The build looks good. If you plan on gaming wireless consider upgrading the wireless card. If you use bluetooth go with the 1202, the 1103 if you dont use bluetooth.
