Hello, im thinking of getting a clevo p775dm3 with the following specs:
    2560 x 1440 120 hz panel
    1070 gpu
    1TD sata hd
16 gb 2400 mhz of ram
i7 6700 quad core processor ( debating on getting it delidded from HIDevolution)
    And liquid ultra paste

I want to install a ssd myself to save money, but never installed one in a laptop before. Since the vendor doesnt provide a copy of the os im getting one of those too. I will get a external drive. For those who has done this how difficult is it install a ssd in a laptop and once it is installed. Do i pop in the disk and choose the ssd to be the drive from the os or do i need to get in the bios to make the external drive the boot drive. Its been awhile since ive done this stuff on desktops.

First off, please don't post the same question in multiple forums.

Installing a SSD in a system like the P775 is actually easier than in a desktop because you don't need to mess around with adapters or cables. Just remove a small panel from the bottom and insert the drive. You also don't need an external optical drive. Microsoft offers a media creation tool that will download a Windows .ISO file and create a bootable flash drive. Then you can install the OS from the flash drive and enter in the product key when prompted.

It's not P775DM3, but I've installed ssd in my P770ZM, and it was really easy. You just simply have to remove one panel on the bottom, and install the ssd.

Sounds easy enough, will the the windows iso allow me to reformate the sata hd to get windows off that?

Yes, you can reformat your HDD with the Windows install media. When you get to the point where you chose the correct drive to install Windows you will have the format option available too.

I need to clarify that the SSD i want to purchase and install is a M.2 SSD. Is that the same panel that has to be removed mentioned above?

As a side note, which version of windows 10 home or pro is preferrable for a gaming rig.

Yes 6700k, my mistake was a typo. Im trying to figure out how to configure the laptop. Admittedly im a novice and trying to find what is necessary and what is fluff.

There is one M.2 under the main hatch and one M.2 under the HDD hatch. Either works.

Definitely get it delidded if you can, or you might end up with one that reaches close to 100c at stock clocks like mine. (in Prime95)

EDIT whoops this was an old post.

I have a P775DM3 and as soon as i received it from HIDevolution i opened a small panel in the back which is specially for installing SSD's (PCIE NVME) and installed a 256 GB as well as a normal 750 GB Laptop 2.5 inch hard drive and it took a total of 5 minutes, is is that easy to do it.
