....really just for the fact that it has the amazing 9800m GTS for 80 bucks cheaper. Specs:
wsxga
9800m GTS
P8400
Arctic Five
4 GB of ram (considered getting 2gb but they don't have a 1 dimm option)
320/7200rpm
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64 Bits
Yea, that's about it...I'm waiting for more positive reports on the turbo memory before I decide on that...seems like everyone's having problems with it.
I'm wondering if anyone can vouch for the quality of Prostar and Lynnbay, which I will probably be ordering it off of. As far as I know, Kevin Jack is the only guy on this forum who has one. That'd be awesome if you could maybe upload some pics of it...I'm really just curious to see what the top looks like (from the prostar pictures it looks like it says AURORA but I'm not really sure).
I have one more random question about arctic 5 - Does it come in a little tube to be applied by the buyer or is it applied by the manufacturer?

FYI, the GT is better than the GTS, not to mention, the GTS is not an option being offered at the moment. It was pulled along with ATI's offering as those cards where not working properly at the time.
Check out this thread for a more indepth discussion, namely post #5. -
It says PROSTAR there on the ones they sell; I have no idea why the pics say AURORA there. Next time I see my dad later today, I'll ask him to borrow his digital camera so I can take some pics for you.
The Arctic Five is applied at the manufacturer; I know, because I asked the Lynnbay rep when I called. I chose to pass on the AS5 though, and if you look at my testing here, you'll see that I'm not suffering for it.
I did also wish they did the 1 dimm option, but I also didn't ask. They seem really keen to making you happy, so I'd definitely ask about it. What made me go with Lynnbay was: 1) The free year of accidental damage; 2) I was ordering on a Monday, and receiving it on that Wednesday, free overnight after I paid for the expedited build time; 3) I like going with the lesser known people sometimes; spread the wealth and all of that jazz. -
the GT is being discontinued and replaced with the GTS so if you want a GT get them while you can

ill look for the post but theres hundreds to search through so if anyone else knows what thread it was in please save me a job of searching.
cant find the original post on here but this was confirmed by Andrew at Kobalt.

Wow I wonder if the whole "9800M GT" was just a way of clearing out the last of the 8800M GTX stock.
New high-end card on the way? -
hmmm,i wonder. its just a shame it wont take the new to be released GTX
-
That makes me wonder whether the 9800GT has the same manufacturing problem that nVidia's been trying to clear out :/
-
hope not cos i just ordered one.

Hold on MrDj, that is simply not true. There are NO PLANS to discontinue the 9800M GT in any of the Clevo models that support it.
Further, notwithstanding all of the stories about the nVIDIA cards having a higher than normal failure rate in multi national brands, this is not and has not been happening with any of the Clevo models (or the Compal or MSI models).
Please, let's not get rumors started that fan unfounded conjecture about things that are simply not true
As for ProStar offering the GTS...they will not be shipping it anytime soon, and will not ship it before Clevo can certify it for use. Once Clevo can certify it, then you will see it in all Clevo models that support it, and it will be offered by all Clevo OEMs and resellers. -

Ah, well thanks for clearing that up. The fact that they're offering it as an option when it isn't available says a lot about the company...especially when it says under the price that the estimated ship date is in six days...
-
It wasn't there as an option when I bought mine, so there must be some reason for them to suddenly list it. I'm going to call Monday to inquire about why they've added it to the configuator.

Correction...ProStar has a hand full of the 65nm version that they are selling off.
Sager will only offer the 55nm version once it becomes available, and there is still no ETA on that one. -
Hmm, now that is an interesting bit of information. I'd like to know how they got their hands on those.
-
paladin44, firstly i dont spread rumours without backing them up as fact first.
so far its been posted by 2 retailers that the 9800GT IS being replaced by the GTS. could i ask of your source as you seem adamant that you know better than others.

My post #11 above that you quote, and my additional post #15 above that you don't quote, are almost a month old, and were true at that time.
Every post that you link to came several weeks later.
Therefore at the time of your original post there was nothing official or on the roadmap, and you had no facts to back it up...it was purely rumor.
PowerNotebooks.com was the first to announce on our website the switch to the GTS. -
I lol'd at this bump, no need to be a jerk 'mr.dj'

@SplinteredVision you might want to check out the price ratings again with the M860tu-Np8660 as far as i can tell most Retailers online will pricematch any other retailer online as well. That and i noticed a price drop for this laptop. Well comparing the date that i ordered mine of course.
update: found out the reason for the price drop in the machine was because of the change in the graphic card from a GT to a GTS.... -
the reason i replied without looking at the dates was the link to here was posted in another thread today.
Thinking of getting a prostar...
