Thinking of purchasing an USED M860TU, is there a way to know if I can upgrade it in the future to a QUAD core ??? Please let me know.

Doesnt it require a new mobo like m570TU?

My understanding is that same as DRevan - that a quad would require a new mobo. I think however the new GPU might be a "drop in" with the current NP8660 (this is how I saw it referenced in an earlier thread). I think we'll need to wait a while longer to know for sure.

as DRevan says, you need the new motherboard. The only way to know if any given M860 has it is to look at the motherboard revision number and compare it to someone who has a known M860ETU (Sager NP8662 - Quad compatible)

The GTX260M should be compatible with just flashing the new BIOS

@Nirvana - While it is true that even if he gets an old M860 (non quad compatible) he could upgrade, he would need to source a new motherboard, and I don't think that is what he was asking.

It depends when the system was purchased. Sager has been shipping the new motherboard versions on the last 8660 orders that shipped out prior to the release of the 8662.

As theriko says above check the motherboard version and that will be your confirmation. The only revision to the new board is Quad Support. The GTX 260M is expected to be a drop in to the 8660. :)

Wow! That is very interesting news. Where would I go to check the motherboard version and what would tell me if I had one that had quad support?

The notebook would have to be purchased within the last month or so. If purchased around this time you can open the bottom panel and notate down the motherboard version #. The version is usually located on the bottom or around the ram slot. You can then contact Sager to confirm if it is the latest motherboard version.

Thanks for the advice Justin. I have gathered the information and submitted it to Sager...no response yet but I’ll resend it if I don't hear back in the next few days.

My unit was purchased just a couple of weeks ago and all the date stickers on the various components say "March 2009". This leads to me to believe that I have a pretty good shot at having the newer board.
    :)
