Hi everyone, just purchased a NP8150 and the computer is great except a few issues.
To begin, this site has ALOT of beneficial information which helped me pick the reseller and the computer. I purchased the NP8150 for heavy Engineering programs and sometimes gaming. The laptop is built with 12gb ram, 500gb 7200 HD, HD6990m, I72670, blu ray.
Here are the issues I am having:
1. Build quality, Keyboard base is real flimsy, along with the keyboard feedback and really sharp edges by the mouse pad.
2. Processing new tabs in Firefox or I.E takes a while(I usually open a few tabs at a time).
3. Processing when starting new programs takes a while.
4. No dead pixels, but seems there is a smudge mark that won't go away on LED.
I don't understand why opening new programs and tabs would cause a heavy delay? My old Latitude doesn't have this issue. I tried checking all drivers and updated Windows and it is up to date.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Switch to google chrome? IMO it's 5x faster than firefox

For #2 and #3
Try Chrome for a web browser. As for programs, is it all programs or only certain ones? How full is your hdd?
For #4-
have you tried any light cleaning agents + microfiber cloth? that usually works for me, though if it's a matte display sometimes the smudges are very hard to get off.
Good luck! -
Thanking everyone ahead of time for the replies.
Ekulz- I will try Chrome, I beleive it should help.
DJRX8000- I will try a different cleaning solution, maybe it will help. I tried opening quicktime and it paused for a few seconds and then opened, during the pause I was staring at the HDD led and it looked as though the HDD did not receive a command until a second or 2 later. Which leads me to beleive theres a delay between opening an application and when the HDD is summoned to start the application. Out of 500GB only 50GB is used if that much, I got the Sager 2 weeks ago.
The main thing I noticed was which was stated above, there seems to be no reaction when I click on a program(waiting Icon appears) until a few seconds later, then I see the HDD light blinking fast. It took about 12-15 seconds for quicktime to open. -
With all that gear - you are bottlenecked with the HDD.
I would suggest purchasing an SSD when you have the funds, and converting either the Blue Ray player or the 500GB HDD to an external case. -
oh boy, wish you didn't say that lol...

It seems to me a Software issue. Make sure that there is no plugins installed in your Firefox or IE it can significantly decrease the performance.
If you want to troubleshoot it, try to boot from a live Linux CD/USB flash and use Firefox from it (I would suggest Ubuntu).
If you think it might be a virus, try to scan your PC using Kaspersky rescue CD (it is free)
Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 -
Even with frefox, it is definitely uncanny for you to be experiencing noticeable lag on a consistent basis, especially given your config. Given that you are comparing the load times to an old latitude, and are still unhappy with them, there is definitely something going on. What operating system are you using?

12-15 secs for quicktime to open.... even with an IDE hdd it wouldn't be that slow.
No anti virus running in the background or other kind of write processing on the harddisk?
try running in safe mode and open firefox if it's still as slow if it is then try a fresh windows install. -
Malibal- I am currently running Windows 7, and I agree with this much processing power small programs should open almost instantly.
Geekz-I have McAfee which was free directly from the school's website. I will try your suggestions. -
