    Hello,

After doing a lot of research on laptops during the last few weeks, I've finally decided to buy a Clevo d900f (I'll order it at the end of this month). I've read that the i7 processors run at quite high temperatures (I'll get the 920 processor personally), and hence I'm planning to buy a notebook cooler in order to hopefully prolong the life of the laptop. I'll buy the laptop from kobalt, and the only notebook cooler they seem to sell with the d900f is a Zalman ZM-NC2000. I've read some good things about the NC2000 notebook cooler, but I'd like to hear if there are better notebook coolers for the d900f? The NC2000 seems to cool the laptop from below, while I've seen some notebook coolers that cool from behind the laptop. Which would be better for the d900f? If the NC2000 isn't ideal for a d900f, I'd love to hear some suggestions.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, thank you, I guess I'll include it in my order then. :)

Both coolers will do their job well, but if portability isn't a concern, then go with the Cryo LX.

I have a NZXT CRYO and it works great.
3 x 120mm fans push out a lot of air and the fan placement is perfect for this laptop.Folds in half when you want to store it and as a bonus comes with 5 extra USB ports in the back.
That is a great feature no more tangle of wires for your USB powered devices and comes with a DC port . I highly recommend this cooler.

What is the temperature difference with such a cooler with your laptops? And also - what if you simply lift the back of the lappy an inch or two - will the improvement be any less than using a cooler?
I am simply a little sceptic towards the real benefit of coolers, as you may tell :) Air is air - whether they pass through 2 sets of fans, or just one.
Maybe someone could point me to any tests that would set me straight?

Cooler is at home now so can't run live test but it does keep it cooler dropping temps.

I understand you can get lower temps, but I wonder; is it because of the extra set of fans, or is it just because by putting a cooler such as the Zalman or Cryo under your laptop, the effect is that you make more "air space" under it ...
That's why I am thinking you would be just as well off if you just raised your lappy a bit, using spacers of some kind.
A test where both of these things are checked and compared would be good.
Also - does having the fans of the cooler on full blast or on minimum make any difference?

    Certainly seems so :)

My point is: If I am going to dish out $70 for a Cryo, I want at least a guaranteed 5-10 degrees effect. Spending that amount only to find I get 1 or 2 degrees lower .... nah-ah, not for me.

You can ask IKAS V, or another D901C or D900F owner, to pull up some numbers for you. The D901C and the D900F are pretty much the same chassis, so the results should be strikingly similar.

That does sound promising. The problem is that in order to get that cooler I'd have to buy it separately, and after checking the price for it in Finland it seems to cost roughly 75 euros here, while the NC2000 cooler costs roughly 36 euros if I include it in the same order with my laptop. Hence I'm not certain if it's worth spending over twice as much for a notebook cooler that might be on par with the NC2000. Would be great if someone with a d901c or d900f could run some temperature tests with the coolers in question.

EDIT: The extra usb ports in the back do sound great though, as the d900f has all of it's usb ports on the right side, which is one of the only things I dislike about the laptop.

10 degrees? I highly doubt so. If you're gonna use this for simple tasks then I would say that it wouldn't make much of a difference. (Maybe bout ~1-2c) But if you're gaming or doing resource-intensive tasks that brings the temps up alot higher, then the difference would be significantly more noticable.

I'm personally using a Zalman nc2000 now and it does work pretty effectively when the temps are on the rise. But my game-time expired and now since I'm doing normal tasks like websurfing and stuff, I've decided to take out the cooler for a quick clean. The temps are still looking fine.

If you're looking for other ways to bring down the temps, you might wanna try applying thermal paste too. :D
