Well I'm just about ready to order my new laptop, and my only reservation is about the 560. Upgrading to a better card is a BIG jump in price, however, so I'm hoping some of you users currently gaming on the 560 can let me know if it's up to snuff or if you wish you'd gone bigger.

I'll be playing mostly FPS games (anyone play BF3 alpha on the 560?) and I am mainly hoping to get 40+ frames on mid to high settings for the next couple years.

    Thanks!

I'm extremely pleased with it so far. Alas, I haven't played the BF3 alpha - but I can run BC2 at mostly max settings at 1080p (at about 50 fps) and The Witcher 2 on 900p at mostly high settings (at about 45-50 fps). If I had some extra money I probably would have went with the 6970m (at the time I ordered), but the 560m was the best option within my budget and I'm perfectly satisfied with it.

If you can afford it, it would probably be worth it to go for a 6990m, but if you feel it's too expensive the 560m is no slouch.

I am in the same boat as most, waiting for BF3 and thinking of upgrade. I am probably not going to make decision until Beta comes out then we'll know what kind of gfx you might need for it, but 560 is right now is a bare minimum where 6990 is my second choice but that comes down to about $500 more for a laptop.

Thanks for the the reply! My setup will match yours pretty much identically I think, the only difference being I will get the glossy display. It's nice to know that you're pleased with it. Unfortunately, if I tried to get the 6990, it would be another $450 with all other components the same, mostly because I'd have to get the P150HM rather than the P151HM1. I really can't justify nearly $500 for an extra 10 fps.

its not an extra 10fps, its nearly twice as many, meaning higher detail settings.

While you make an excellent point, nevertheless $450 can buy a lot of games, or a few nice dinners with my wife even :)

I wouldn't say twice as many but it is more than 10fps according to the gaming benchmarks I have seen the 580m is roughly 50-60% more powerful than a 560m.

Now I dunno if $500 is worth 50-60%. It was for me.

It's not "$295 more"... while 6990 upgrade is "$245" you have to take into account that to get 6990 you need to get different model which starts at about $200 higher then the model that has 560 card.

Yes but the $200 extra for a 8150 gives better base components than the 8130. In the end, you're still getting upgrades for your money.

Well an aftermarket 6990M w/ heatsink + 180W PSU is going to be over $500 anyway, so whether you spend the money now or later, it's essentially the same expenditure.
