Thoughts on this build from HID? Specifically is it worth RAID 0 for 960s

    Upgrades from stock:

    • 17.3" 3K QHD (2560x1440) AUO 120Hz - 5ms - LED Matte Type Display - w/ nVIDIA® G-SYNC™ Technology+$75.00
    • 30 Days Zero Defective Pixel Warranty (perfect panel guarantee) +$35.00
    • HIDevolution Delidded - Unlocked, Under Volted and Overclocked 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700K (Desktop) Quad Core Processor, 4.2 GHz (HIDevolution Overclocked to 4.7GHz) - GUARANTEED Performance (Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra includ +$120.00
    • 16GB (2 x 8GB) Dual Channel DDR4/2400MHz +$70.00
    • RAID 0 Stripping - 500GB (2 x 250GB) Samsung 960 EVO M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD +$330.00
    • 2nd drive: 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive +$66.00
I'm thinking it may just be better (and unnoticeable difference?) to get a single 960 500GB and enjoy the extra space. Also, any advice on G-SYNC vs Non and the 4k upgrade?

Lastly, I'm slightly worried about cooling/over-heating, but it seems HID has this covered. Anybody have any feedback on this setup playing games like Star Wars battlefront for 1-2 hours straight.

    Thanks folks!

With the 3k screens some have said they suffer from banding (do a search you'll find a few threads on the subject).

I think a single 500GB SSD drive would be a better idea. I'd hazard a guess that performance is negligable for the average user and it also gives you the chance to get a second 500GB drive if you ever need one.

That, or get a single larger drive. The day-to-day performance difference between a single one in AHCI v.s two in RAID 0 is hardly appreciable.

The 4Ks look nice, honestly, I'm just not a fan of that high a res on that small of a screen. 4K can be better appreciated with more display real estate, IMO. G-Sync works well when your FPS fall below the refresh rate; it's not a bad idea to have with a 120 Hz panel.

I was shying away from the 4k screen. Now I need to track down if there really is a banding issues on 3k LCDs.

I think I know what I'm getting, now is it HID, Xotic, or other? My buddies like Xotic but I'm thinking HID.

    thanks all for the advice
