@shyster
Dude, you Sony Vaio, which company is the ODM?
Is it Quanta? Can you post the motherboard info from Everest?
Thanks.

congratz Gophn you are a very meticulious person. Glad to see its still goin strong.
i couldnt afford going over 4 years -
You do know his laptop is special, right?
Built by him one by one, step by step, part by part.
That's the positive thing of building laptop 1 by 1 instead buying one complete built-up. You grow fond of your laptop
-
You betcha - you're the first person I've come across who seems to have even an inkling about these systems.
Here's the basic info - I didn't include all of the PCI debug dumps:Also, here's the additional motherboard info from the Everest system summary report:Lastly, I did a BIOS dump at some point in the past (using PC Wizard 2007, v. 1.73), and found the following BIOS identification string in the dump:which I believe identifies the chipset as being based on the Cooperspur reference board from Intel, as pictured here:
And also referred to in a PPT presentation by James Liu of Intel in September, 2003, in the following quotation:(See page 10 of the PPT presentation).
The only other tidbit of information I managed to get - info that _Sony was apparently so embarrassed about that they didn't even discuss it in the "confidential" service manual for the Z1 series, is that the lcd was manufactured by _Toshiba.

Interesting software :0
Is that freeware?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
I have absolutely no idea who built the actual case or motherboard - I've taken the thing apart numerous times and once went so far as to write down all of the markings I could find on the inside of the top cover, and all of the markings on the various components on the motherboard, but couldn't track any one of them down to the owner of the mark. Of course, I haven't taken the motherboard out of the bottom of the case yet, so perhaps there's a tell-tale mark lurking under there?
Is there any particular reason you're interested in finding a VAIO for which Quanta was the ODM? -
ExIFTool? Yup. You can also find some of the standards used in the ExIF data structures online, if you really want to start digging into the nitty-gritty of your image files.

LOL
I'm just curious whether Sony make their own laptop or not.
And when I ask you in the previous post "who is your laptop ODM, Quanta?"
You answered "You betcha" -
No, I answered betcha to the request that I put the data from Everest up, not to the question whether I knew if the ODM was Quanta.
Besides which, is there any real question that _Sony doesn't make all of the systems it sells under the _Sony brand? -
what you mean by that?
sorry, english is not my native language
-
Sony usually gets their systems manufactured through Compal or Quanta.
-
No worries, it's not mine, either - I speak American (a joke, BTW
).
What I meant was, whether _Sony will admit to it or not, it is almost certain that they have some other company do most of their manufacturing for them (from what I understand, their in-house production is generally limited to systems that are sold in Japan).
As Gophn so kindly pointed out, Compal and Quanta do a lot of _Sony's ODM work, so I think that more or less settles it. Now we should probably get back on topic and stop spoiling Gophn's wonderful little thread.

UP until last year, the SZ units sold in Hong Kong were also made in Japan. Not sure about the new Z though.
-
That's possible. My Z, however, would not have been one of those, as it's from the first Z-series VAIOs that were released in early 2003 - back when a 1.3GHz centrino could actually do a thing or two - so it could have been made by Adam and Eve for all I know.
-
Adam & Eve = Adut Video Studio?
-
Ah how I wish my 1.6Ghz Pentium M Dothan notebook was still alive. Made when they cared about portability and battery life.
Three years later... with my Clevo D900K
