Thats the exact specs I have on my 5760 minus the vid card.
I have the 7900GTX 256mb instead.
What OS are you going to be using?
I installed Windows XP MCE 2005 on mine.
I would LOVE to find out how your system performs compared to mine so we can see how much of a performance increase the 512mb does on the 7900GTX.
I am guessing a 10-20% performance increase but really would like to see the numbers.
I also just submitted my review to Abaxter here and hopefully he will post it soon.
This is what I used for my Benchmarks:
SuperPi (2m at 20 iterations)I also used FRAPS for 60 seconds on each test for:
3DMark05
3DMark06
PCMark05
Oblivion
F.E.A.R.
Battlefield 2
PS:
OMG you have Tetris?!?!
I am still playing pong and only have notepad on my 5760 -
Kilim,
ok I will run the benchmarks and post pics after I get the machine.
I will use xp professional.
nice to be onboard here. seems to be a very nice community.
I will give kudos to powernotebooks.com as well, I could have just as easily bought from them. Donald there was very helpful. The only thing is I may opt for an ADP warranty. -
Excellent news
I really want to know if I should have waited a month or not and this will definitely make that feeling go away, or get worst lol.
And ya the community here rocks.
I found this place after my friend showed me a link to a post here while researching for laptops and stuck here ever since lol.
And ya PN are great and only reason I didn't go there is I felt I needed ADP because of this thing that calls me Obi-wan and thinks his Anakin Skywalker (ie 3yr old son) lol
But ya Paladin has been a great source of info personally and in this forum. -
quick question. I installed windows xp pro on my desktop recently and obviously activated it. Now, can I use the same disk and install xp on my new laptop. I hope so I dont feel like scrounging up more cash for windows. Also is the disk with the drivers easy to install? are the drivers the latest ones for the components?
thanks in advance. I gotta go and study now. -
1 OS per PC is the general rule that I have found out.
You can transfer the license to another PC but you cannot use 1 license on 2 or more PC from what I understand.
I had to purchase a 2nd OS because of this.
As for the drivers, it is super easy.
You just put the driver CD in after you install your OS and follow the numbers.
Haven't seen such an easy way to install them, ever.
Also I think it is the latest drivers so far. -
where did you get media center from?
-
I got it from Newegg.
Only got it because I wanted to use the Media Center remote to control my laptop when I feel lazy.
From what I understand XP MCE is just XP Home with Media Extensions.
Average gamer/person only really needs XP Home.
XP Pro is when you need to get into domains.
I have used all 3 before and I am enjoying XP MCE 2005 the best so far.
Funny thing is after you install it, it shows as XP Pro lol. -
thanks I am going to newegg and place an order tonight. ALso I looked at your Precious profile and noticed that you bought a laptop cooler? is that really needed? Does it really help? Also what external usb tv tuner would you suggest. I am thinking about this one.

I actually added a quick review on some of the accessories I have for my 5760.
They include the Logitech G7, Kensington COntour backpack and the Vantech Lapcool4.
This was all included in my review.
As for the LapCool4, it is barely noticeable in cooling and I reaally like it for making my 5760 tilted for a more ergonomic typing and the extra USB Ports.
In short, you can live without 1.
As for a TV Tuner.
I have the Hauppauge PVR-500 MCE in my desktop that I turned into a HTPC and it is good so far.
I have heard good things about Hauppauge for TV Tuners.
That specific model you linked is actually the one I was debating of using if I get one for my laptop.
So far, there really is no reason for me to get a TV Tuner for my laptop so I ahven't bought 1.
In fact, I do not even see myself having a Bluetooth device for at least 3 months or longer so I think thats another extra I didn't really need lol.
Took the plunge and bought it! 512mb 5760
