Ok I normally hate gimmicky things and extra proggies sitting in my system tray blinking at me, like they deserve to be on my computer at all let alone my unwavering attention and gratitude.

But the M57 has that stripe down the right side of the touchpad that was begging me to enable it. It persuaded me with promises of "ease of use" and a "better Windows experience." It said, "see those scroll bars? I'm made for that job. Give me life!" Grudgingly, I installed this species of touchpad driver by Synaptics and woke it up.

But what a monster! However gently I stroke that beguiling little bar, it lurches and staggers jerkily from line to line, it's protozoic brain not able to understand, not only *when* I want to scroll, but that I want to scroll smoothly; pixel -> pixel, not pixel -> brick.

The poor beast also suffers from catatonia, often requiring several pokes and shoves before it wakes up and decides I want to scroll somewhere. So, finally, I put it out of its misery and employed a mouse, whose simple yet efficient brain seems better equipped to handle this sort of thing.

Any other tales from the touchpad crypt? Or am I being haunted?
