    Hello all,

I'm sure there is a simple solution to this problem, but I can't seem to get my touchpad functioning. I normally toggle it off via the FN+F1 key when I'm gaming, but I can't seem to get it come back.

Tried restarting, toggling the FN+f1 keys..doesn't seem to do anything.

    Any ideas?

Method 1: make sure the drivers for the touchpad are installed (then use the Fn+F1 toggle)

Method 2: force Windows to re-detect it

Go into Control Panel > System
    - Go to Hardware tab
    - click Device Manager button
    - (under Mice and other Pointing devices)
-- right-click on PS/2 Compatible Mouse and choose UNINSTALL

    Then Restart.

This should force Windows to re-detect and re-configure it.

I have already attempted method 2 with no results..

How do I go about checking on the drivers?

I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the specific drivers from the installation cd..no change in status.

I tried using yours, I downloaded them etc, but it never let me choose those particular drivers..or any for that matter. I clicked on the "allow me to pick location of drivers" and it went straight to "searching for software" yada yada "software for this device is installed, please restart"

The only thing I can think that would have changed anything is I ran a thorough virus scan with Avast earlier..

strange that your toggle does not work, mine has never done that.

Are you using vista or XP?

    XP..

It has worked fine and dandy up until today. I can't remember when exactly I last used it, but remember toggling it off during gaming earlier due to palm interference.

Windows detects it and claims it is working properly, etc...

OK here is detailed way to update your drivers:

go to the Device Manager and right-click on the "PS/2 compatible"
    -- choose Update Driver
-- choose the drivers that you just downloaded and extracted.
    1) DO NOT let it go to Windows Update > Next
    2) choose Install from specific location > Next
    3) uncheck Search removable media
    4) check Include this location in the search
-- Browse for the location that you extracted the files to
    5) Hit Next and your drivers should get updated with the proper ones.

Also... try to see if your other Fn Keys work as well.

Perhaps the touchpad is disabled in the BIOS? Check there, I can't remember if there is an option or not.

Alright, did those exact steps except that there is no "ps/2 compatible" in my device manage, so I click on "mice and other pointing devices" > Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad.

After selecting the extracted driver files and clicking next it said it cannot continue due to failing to find a better suiting set of drivers than the ones already installed.

I'll try to uninstall the current drivers and do the same steps..

i am pretty sure that its something simple.

try to uninstall any and ALL pointing devices in the Device Manager

    Remove your mouse and RESTART.
