he meant to say that with the m860tu, you "You get a bit of increase in performance and (in my opinion) nicer design"
i think so at least![]()
this 9800m-gts business is killing me... how noticeable will it be?
-
whizzo... unless you are a 3DMark06 freak, that likes to have the extra 100 points, you won't probably notice it at all.
They will both deliver high gaming performance and what you can run with one, you will be able to run with the other (with maybe less than 5 FPS difference).
More... Kobalt has the 9800m GT and I strongly recommend them. So that would clear your mind.
Finally, regarding the design... I also think the m860TU's design is better (although a backlit keyboard would actually be cool) and you can't take it to different places without being ashamed. Let's face it... the m15x is a computer for kids. -
Out of all the m15x features I'd for sure miss the smart bay and batery life (thus integrated gfx as well).
In any case for me the price is important too, I did not hesitate to buy a m15x when it came out. We were in the market for a gaming rig this one was top of the line. I'll never regret it either since we were lucky to get a perfect working one. Now however that there's an alternative that is much better priced I do not hesitate to get the competitions computer. I'd never get out to say which is better because they all excell at different things but I know that for what I want they are equal so price is the factor.

ianiro, had a chance to take any pictures yet?
-
Not yet, picked it up today but just got home from work. I'm installing some stuff now and playing a bit to see how it moves. As first impressions... i'm impressed
. Build quality is really nice and everything feels rock solid. I only had time to power up and run a 3dmark and it was around 8900 points.
Now I'm putting in the 7200rpm hard disk and as soon as I get it up and running with Vista tweaks and drivers I'll try to do some tests.
Screen is nicer on the m15 though but is still very nice.
-
Chiming in with my 32 cents. I had a m15x I was probably some of the first few that had it with a 8800m gtx card pre penryn. then i went to a Sager NP5793 then im down to a Sager NP8660. Do i regret letting go of my m15x Nope not one regret ever since.

COngrats Ianirito...
How is it holding? Solid hein?
Hope you will get a good experience.
Let us know regarding comparisons, sizes, weight, etc...
Regarding the screen, the screen in the m15x was better but, I think it's just because of the lower resolution screen it has.
Let us know if you have any doubt, question, etc...
And if you need any help with drivers and all that.
Don't forget the driver for the intel data matrix contoller... to make your HDD run cooler.
Keep us posted.

Ok, still no pictures but i managed to do some tests. So far I'd say m15 has a better screen, more bright a bit better colors but is not a huge difference, I'd say is impossible to see unless u have them side by side with the same picture loaded. On the other hand nexus design for the screen is nicer. I hate the fact that the m15 has a thick border around the screen that is glossy black
.
For the temperatures I monitored everything and the hdd stays around 55 while gaming so is ok.
Build quality nexus wins by far. Design is a matter of taste but the nexus is rock tough.
Keyboard, again depends on taste. I like more the feel of the m15 keyboard and backlight is nice to have. The nexus on the other hand has no flex whatsoever while m15 as usual flexes a bit in the arrow keys.
Led lights better positioned on the m15, especially for the caps lock led which is what many people reported.
Ok, specs are:
nexus 2.53 proc, 9800GTS, 4Gb ram, WD 320Gb at 7200
m15 2.6 proc, 8800GTX, 2Gb ram, 200Gb HDD at 7200 (forgot the brand).
In 3dmark I got roughly 400points more on the m15 (running at the same resolution) than on the nexus. So I'd say they are pretty equal speed wise, no differences there. If I would have gone for the GT mazbeI'd have scored higher (9400 nexus 9800m15 / keep in mind it was not run at 1280x1024).
Accessories, neus comes with the finger print reader which is a nice thing to have. DVD drive is a bit edgy, it jumps out as soon as you touch the button. Power brick is a bit bigger on the nexus.
Accessories m15 wins by far because of the smart bay so if you feel you really need the extra batery life, extra hdd etc then m15 is your best bet. I'm not really interested in battery life and for hdd I have external ones soI could live without that. -
Ok, had some 5 free minutes so took few pictures...

other then the backlight, the m15x got nothing for my liking, screen little brighter but probably due to lower res which is another negative, i'd even trade it for a gateway fx
-
Did you max your screen's brightness, ioaniro (Fn+F9)? My M860TU came at a fairly dim setting and max is super bright (still not running on max bright).
-
Yep is at max brightness. But I was used to the macbook I have for work that burns your retina on max brightness so...
-
-
. Nah anyway I dont mind it being a bit les bright

hello from Aw forum. I am also interested in returning my m15x and getting either sager or clevo. I see that M860TU is the closest thing to m15x. I was wondering does it offer BluRay? and if so, does it also offer HDMI out?
If I get a refund, I will be looking more into buying M860TU
I spent around $3,350CAD ($3,100US, £1,740GBP) on the m15x, so I'll be spending the same amount on this one. -
It does offer blu ray but you have to wait til they are in stock. I am waiting for it and then I'll be sending the regular optical drive back to my company. Yes, it does have HDMI out.
-
Hi Ricky and welcome (almost) to the x m15x club
the M860TU does offer blue ray and an HDMI out port.
mine cost £1,781 in the uk and got top spec except for the P9500 processor.
this computer is built like a tank and you are certainly making the right choice.
any ideas where your going to buy it from yet.
if you want to read through the user manual you can get it here clikety click -
I don't know where I'll be buying this from, I am in Canada, so who ships the unit to Canada?
-
No doubt, the Nexus baby is the best... by too far away!
-
I tried to play around with settings which brings the difference to about 500 points in 3dmark (no overclock on either) in favor of the m15. In games however they re perfectly matched, tried some benches and they get almost identical scores. I'll try to get some better games to test thouh since I mostly have online mmo's
. I'm pretty sure that with the 9800GT card the difference would be less than 100 points. Also 3dmark'06 might favor a bit the older architecture of the m15 since I sa slightly higher scores even for the m15 processor (by 50 points so nothing big).
-
On true game benchmarks, the 9800mGT beats the 8800GTX (even if the 8800GTX might have better score on 3DMark06.
So... the M860TU is the best! -
Why you have an nVidia sticker on the M860TU and I don'T =[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[
Anyway, how can you compare the noise and temperature of both? -
.
-
it is, yeah. nice pics btw. so tempting
-
Do you have a deadline for the exchange? Maybe you can hang in there and see what happens with nvidia, do they put out new graphic cards to replace the GT or what
.
-
not a real deadline, but the other guy wants it to happen within a week or two. what's this nvidia business you're talking about?
