Hey guys, I've been having trouble updating my graphics drivers from 12.8 to 12.10 as you could gather from the title of this post.

What happens is I go into the control center and I go down to Information > Software Update

It says AMD Catalyst 12.8 (Last update Sunday August 19th, 2012)

So I check for updates and obviously 12.10 is available. So I download it, then I normally choose Express install. I see the damn thing installing on my system. But even after I install the new drivers it STILL says 12.8. I don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong here.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with CCC? Is this a problem with Clevo or something?

I'm going to try to download the file directly from the website and see what happens if I install it that way. But any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    -Ian

I wouldn't update from inside CCC. I'd download the driver package manually and install over it. If that doesn't work, you could nuke your drivers with DriverFusion and then reinstall the new driver package.

DO NOT NUKE WITH DRIVER FUSION
    - It will likely destroy rather than fix. There is no need for Driver Fusion on Windows 7 or 8.

13.1 WHQL will be out today, wait for those. As for the driver label 12.8 or 12.10, that doesn't matter. That's just a registry entry. What you want is to make sure the latest driver themselves are installed. You can check that via Device Manager.

As for installing drivers. It's simply express uninstall from Add/Remove, restart and then just install as normal.

As for the built in updater, that will be disabled with 13.1 WHQL and on since AMD announced there was a security issue with it. Instead of fixing it, they are going to just get rid of it and is suggested you do not enable it if your current drivers have it.

when I check it through the device manager it says

    Driver Version 8.810.0.0

And when I try to update it claims its the most up to date version of the driver.

So does this mean I'm alright?

No, those are old. As suggested, uninstall add/remove express like normal and then install the 12.10 as normal. Don't use the updater. I also stated from AMD, don't use the updater, disable it.

    It should be 9.002.0.0000

Unless I overlooked the 13.1 WHQL release, here is the 12.11 performance driver, OP: AMD Catalyst

With that, you'll be up to date; although you may want to check back in a day or two for the 13.1 - which is the official release of the 12.11 driver.
