Hi,i'm looking to get the NP8170(With the HD6970,the 485M is on back-order so *beep* that crap :p )and i just got two questions before i go and get it:

1.I heard leaving the charger plugged in could ''corrupt'' the battery, does this applies to this notebook too?

2.Could i use this as a car charger and still get max power?
    Newegg.ca - BELKIN F5C400-300W Power Inverters

EDIT:Whoops, another question:Is the notebook gonna be able to tell me it needs to be plugged in even if i'm playing a game in full-screen?

    1. No, there is no such thing as corrupting a battery while being plugged in.

    2. Yep, as long as it provides that 300w as continuous, and not peak, then you should be fine. At worst, you'd need 220w to run the P170HM, at full load. So there's plenty of power in that adapter if it's a 300w continous.

    3. Yes, you should get an audible beep when your battery starts to run critically low. If not, it may need enabled in bios first.

    Thanks!
BTW,on question 1 i meant leaving the charger plugged in while the battery is full. And i'll assume that adapter does 300W continuous : p

EDIT:How much times does XoticPC take to build and ship? I need my NP8170 by the 23th...

Xotic does not build them, they are just the reseller.

    It really depends on Sager.

As a side note the 485M is on back order because in a few weeks its replacement comes out...

Anyway to speed your order time if you order don't pick any options that says promo memory upgrade or free memory ect.. If you do it requires the laptop to get shipped from Sager to Xotic, they take a few days to add the mem and ship to you after that so it delays you getting it a little.

Anyway it will be very hard for you to get a laptop this fast at this point. It took mine just over a week to ship so the only way is if you MAYBE pay for faster shipping and pick an S1 model as those are somewhat pre-built.

Well, when buying from Sager i get this option:Rush Order Service - Guaranteed shipping within 2 business days of your order (not including day of order)

So i think i'll just buy from them even if i have to spend extra cash for Windows(You can't choose to not have an OS).I just hope that dosen't mean they'll rush it and that i'll end up with a non-fully functional laptop.

    EDIT:What's the 485M's replacement?
    EDIT 2: Damn,scary. : ( http://www.resellerratings.com/store/view/Sager/page/1 I think i'll just buy from XoticPC then.

The car inverter may be able to supply 300W, but it'll more than likely blow the fuse on your lighter socket circuit - you usually have to run a wire direct to the battery to run thatkind of power :)

It's possible, but you can check to make sure! (I've run a 300w in my car, but the disclaimer being that all cars aren't the same)

The easiest way to find out is to check your fuse box. The adapter is 12v, and amps * volts = watts. So as long as your fuse is >= 25 amps, then you should be golden for a 300w adapter. Never replace the fuse with a higher amperage fuse though, just to get it to work. Odds are the wiring in the car can only manage that rated amount and it could be a fire hazard if you run too much current through it.

Current ETA on the P170HM / 8170 with 560M or AMD 6970M is 4 Business Days. The 485M is backordered, so it's around 10 Business Days for that card.

If you have a need by date it is best to communicate that with our verifications department and they will do their best to work with you on that date. We are processing hundreds of orders every day. You can be assured your order will ship as soon as it completes building/testing @ Sager. Your in good hands :)

I don't really understand that though.I know my lighter socket says 12V 120W MAX.

Sounds like you're out of luck then. A 300w adapter is likely to blow a fuse. Anything higher than 120w would be too much.
