    Hey all,

First of all Im new to this section of NBR, have been around in the Alienware section though, but after the masses of problems with the m15x and the really poor CS, Ive decided to cancel my order later today.
Ive been looking at different resellers of the Clevo MR571U (?) in Europe, and RockDirect looks very good to me, especially cause of its warranty, but also nice design.
Well my question is, what sort of things has everyone heard about RockDirect? How is their customer service, and build quality?
I understand that theres cheaper options for this laptop, but I just dont want to get anything like AW has.. plus Rock is still cheaper hehe

    Thanks,

    Falcon

I ordered from rock, then canceled my order and went with novatech, preety much same spec but £300 cheaper due to a non hd dvd drive in the configuration.

Well Rock stand by their machines, my eldest son has a Rock and its still running strong, had to be sent back twice for new plastics, (notorious casing that cracks , not clevo)
every time, they have left his hard disk in tact, rather than just blindly doing a re-install, so even though we backed up it was a pleasant surprise to see it come back working just the way we sent it.

Turnaround on returns is free and efficient, probably why the price tag is higher.

Just ordered for myself from Novatech, because its so much cheaper

Novatech does look cheaper, but I really want a blu-ray reader and a TV-tuner, which they don't offer I think >< Do you know any other reseller in UK that would?

Kobalt makes my config even more expensive then Rock

I think that Rock would be best for the components you want.
Beast computers refer to rock for notebooks, and they have very solid warranties,
if you can spend the money then its all good, personally I would get a blu-ray writer once they get nice and cheap probably next year, I am in no rush. the drives should hopefully be available just to slot in :)

I had a Rock Xtreme CT I found Rock to be one of the best Laptop companies i've dealt with, & I have dealth with a few. I live in NZ, they shipped parts for free when I did have a problem!!

I would have gone for Rock again but they only just launched there 17" SLI laptop, I had already purchased from xoticpc.

    Would deff recommend them!

I compared Rock and Novatech and went for the latter because they are much cheaper for the same product and also supply without an OS as I already had XP. Rock won't sell without an OS.

I believe the only components one builder could use differently are: RAM, HDD and DVD-ROM. Apart from that its exactly the same as it comes from Clevo (ok Rock have the one with the stupid fingerprint scanner hehe) True Rock could use a branded memory but doesn't it all come from the same factory in the end!? :)

Of course you get what you pay for and no doubt Rock provide better after sales service, should you need it. However £300 on a £1400 system is a huge increase.

Why not put it on your house insurance and specify the laptop as a named item. If it breaks you can get a new one! Forget the warranty, keep the £300!

yeah Insurance is what I am thinking :)
gotta be cheaper but of course, you are getting extremely good service from rock.
rarely do I see a complaint
they are passionate about their machines

from what I read on the Novatech forums though , they too are passionate about the machines they build, and staff post in response to questions, its all very open and honest..........(I'm looking at you alienware!)
