Have you guys experienced any problems with the shipment of your laptops via UPS?

This is my story, I ordered the laptop in my sig a month ago, it was built and shipped out last week on August 1st. I was away during the first two attempts at shipping my laptop, the first attempt being Aug 2nd and the second attempt being Aug 3rd. I phoned UPS Friday August 3rd to make sure that they would deliver it the following Tuesday (Monday was a holiday). I received a phone call and voicemail the morning of Monday August 6th, confirming that my laptop would be delivered Tuesday August 7th around 1PM. It is now 3:30 PM and I still don't have my laptop. This morning (Tuesday August 7th), I went onto the UPS website to view my order. There had been a status change stating that my shipment had changed. It said that my package could be picked up at a delivery depot 3hrs away instead of being shipped as it was suppose to be. I phoned UPS regarding this change of status and the rep assured me that my package was on its way. I actually ran into the man that would be delivering my package and asked him if he had my package in which he replied "no." I then phoned UPS regarding why my package had not shipped. They simply told me that There had been 3 reliever attempts and my laptop was changed to pickup instead of being delivered . I then phones UPS again and got ahold of someone who was actually useful, we found out that my package had been changed to pick up because I had requested it, both him and I knew that I didn't request this. Then he sorted it out and my laptop should be delieved tomorrow.

Oh man! Fourth attempt is the charm :) Sucks that you missed it the first three times though. It will be well worth the anticipation and excitement.

What sucks most is UPS only holds it at the sorting stations around here which are just so far away. FedEx can hold it any Kinkos, which is AWESOME. FedEx > UPS anytime.

See I'm from Canada so it is being held at a Purolator shipping depot 3 hours away but it couldn't be kept at the one in my small town (1000 people) even though it too is Purolator. Blah I have to wait till tomorrow at 1 to get my laptop now.

Yeah in Canada it's totally different. My city, Fedex has no facility (350k pop) and I'd have to drive 150km to get something if I miss 3 deliveries. UPS has a facility and Purolator as well (neither are convenient). Canadapost is the easiest to deal with.

I guess I'm lucky that the local UPS hub is only 15 mins away from me. Though when I ordered my W110ER, I made the mistake of thinking I'd actually be home to get it. The package came on Friday at about 7:45 pm, during about a 20 minute window when I was not home (mind you, the "delivery estimate" was before 4 pm).

I thought fine, I will call and have them hold the package and I will pick it up on Saturday, because I know the hub is open and lets people do this, at least for a few hours in the morning. Nope, turns out I need to call before 7 pm to arrange a Saturday pickup. Too bad the package was not delivered until after 7, and UPS has an asinine policy of not allowing me to pick up a package THAT IS ALREADYHYSICALLY AT THE HUB until they've made at least one delivery attempt, otherwise I would have told them to hold it on Friday and picked it up after work. They can't do that, though, since apparently they're required to waste fuel and pay the driver in an attempt to deliver a package that I can guarantee them I won't be there to receive. Just trying to make their, and my, job much easier.

Not to mention the incident with my 3610qm. The driver THREW the box at least 6 feet over the fence to my back patio, and it landed IN a fish tank. Luckily it was sent in a ziplock bag, so the CPU itself was dry, but the box got pretty wet in the few minutes it took me to find the package (the driver knocked, but by the time I got to the door, he was gone and the slip said it was left on "back porch"). Imagine if he had done that when I was not there. You bet I called and complained (was promised a call back from management, but never got one), because my wife ordered some custom artwork about a year ago and it was thrown over the fence too, but it didn't land in the water so I didn't think anything of it.

When UPS delivered my laptop to my house in Canada, they rang the doorbell and dropped it off at the front door. Before I could even attempt to answer the truck was gone. Had I not the day off and been waiting for them to arrive, anyone could have walked by and stolen my laptop. I was pretty unimpressed about the whole situation and planned to file a complaint, but I'll admit that my excitement got the best of me and I opened my new toy and started playing with it immediately and forgot to contact my local UPS.

Generally I prefer to get things shipped with CanadaPost when in Canada and USPS from the States, as it is always cheaper and with my experience safer. Sometimes that unfortunately isn't an option.

Oh man these are horror stories!

My ups guy rang three times before I was able to get to the door. Required Sig and all. Whether or not he would of left it I don't know, but three rings was reassuring.

You guys should definitely call your ups store in question and leave feedback. The company should know what kind of driver is working for them. :)

UPS is a terrible company, and I've had my share of disappointments with FedEx as well.

TWICE I've had drivers say they were at my house and I was not home when I was. One occasion I had stayed home form work to receive said package. The other time I was on vacation. The driver claimed to be there for the 2nd and 3rd attempts even though I was at home the entire time waiting for the package. So, I have my doubts if the moron ever even showed up the 1st time - but I can not comment because I was gone that day unfortunately.

It all makes me nervous for my purchase coming up here in about 6 weeks. I'm actually debating taking a weekend type trip to Michigan so i dont have to have it shipped and the girlfriend and I can get out of town for a couple days to have a little fun.
