I'm in Canada and I'm thinking of ordering a Sager 9750 from discountlaptops.com. According to their website they ship to Canada via UPS International.
I've heard some horror stories about UPS and their "brokerage fees". Have any Canadians on here ordered a laptop from the US and had it shipped via UPS? Did you get hit with brokerage fees? As far as I know the only costs added onto a laptop ordered from the US should be GST + PST. I phoned Canada Customs a couple of years ago and asked them if there were any duties on laptops and I was told no. So what are these "brokerage fees", and is UPS the only courier that charges them? If so, how do they stay in business?

Brokerage fees are the charges UPS levies to handle the importation of your laptop - the paperwork, essentially. They're able to stay in business doing this becuase it is very profitable...
I suggest trying to get your supplier to ship by FedEx rather than UPS -- I find that FedEx almost never chargers me brokerage fees. You may have to pay slightly more for your shipping, but it is usually still much less than the brokerage fees that UPS charges.
Regarding GST/PST, I usually only get charged GST. Your mileage may vary.
Cheers,
Eugene.
