I just got the NP9170 and I cannot use a mouse or a flash drive. I have tried 1 wired USB mouse and 2 different wireless mice. The computer will detect the wired and 1 of the wireless. It will say it can't be recognized and it has malfunctioned. These mice work in other computers. The flash drive and the other wireless mouse will not even be detected. It acts as if nothing is even in the port.

can someone please help me resolve this.

Are you trying all of these devices in one USB port, or all of the USB ports? If you open up device manager (search "devmgmt.msc" in the start menu, it should come right up), would you mind posting a screen shot of what it says under the "USB controllers"* ?

Hope we can get this solved (or at least figured out) for you!

*(or something like that, I'm not by my windows comp at the moment)

You are quite welcome, I enjoy helping people. :)

    A. USB 3.0 ports are "backwards compatible." These means that USB 2.0 devices can be used with USB 3.0 ports, so I wouldn't worry about which port your mouse is plugged into.

    B. I had a similar problem on a customer's laptop a year or two ago.
Because the device is listed as "unknown" in the device manager, it looks as though something didn't go quite right with your driver installation. I'm guessing you ordered from xoticpc (the wallpaper kind of gave that away ;) ), so I know you have the CD of drivers. You could try to see if the CD has a repair function on it (some do, some don't, and I don't have my sager yet to know if it does), and run that. If there is not such a function, you could always uninstall the drivers and reinstall them.

    C. It could just be that your computer is missing drivers for intellipoint devices (drivers used by most mice). Try these.

P.S. Next time, there is not need to make the images so big. Some of us have pretty low-res screens. :p

man I feel so lame. I had no idea those ports were backwards compatible. I didnt want to break anything so i never tried. The mouse works perfectly after I plugged it in. I am still concerned as to why the USB 2.0 isnt working.

Thanks a lot. Sometimes the answers are just right under your nose.

Well, I'm glad to have helped, but you still should be able to use the 2.0 port. There is no reason for a USB 2.0 flash drive to not work with a USB 2.0 port. You could always call xotic if you run out of ideas.
