Hi - I have a P170EM running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit, and my mouse keeps randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. This was also happening to other USB devices, but seems to predominantly affect my mouse, which is a Logitech G500.

    Anyone else ever experience this?

    Thanks!

Is it always the same port doing it or all of them?

Does it happen when only a single device is plugged in? (testing multiple different devices one at a time).

A few things can cause this.

    1) Another USB device flooding the interface with errors or noise. IE a fauly external device.
    2) Bad software/driver.
    3) Bad controller on MB.
    4) A short in one of the USB ports. Often caused when something is improperly inserted or two or more of the metal pins in the port on the machine bend and cross.

IF it's only happening on one plug the issue will be with the port itself. They are very fragile and it's possible the plug was damaged by mistake or due to poor quality of itself or another device plugged in.

My WD MyPassport backup HDD does this unless it's plugged into a USB 2.0 slot, but it also did that on my old Asus.

Besides the mouse, what other devices are connected?

Thanks for your replies, everyone. I have headphones connected through USB as well, but the problem persists when the mouse is plugged in alone. I've tried a number of different USB ports (spanning both 3.0 and 2.0 ports as well). I often only hear the "disconnect" sound but not the "reconnect" sound. When this happens my mouse becomes inactive for about a second and then repowers.

This is a very new phenomenon and only began around a week ago.

Try looking inside each port on your machine and make sure none of the little metal prongs are crushed, bent or anything.
If they look fine next I would say get a linux live cd and boot on that and see if the mouse still acts up. That will tell you if is software/driver hopefully. Maybe worst case you just need to reinstall?

Have you tried the mouse on another machine?

Hi everyone - Thanks for your replies! I'm trying another mouse now and it doesn't seem to be happening anymore. So I guess I'll be buying a new mouse :(
I was confused initially because the USB audio that I have was also acting up, but that's been resolved.
