I bought a laptop from Malibal back a few weeks ago, they started shipping on Oct 4 which is good, only took a few days to build, but now I'm waiting for it and getting kind of impatient.
It says Expected Delivery : 2011/10/20 which obviously isn't going to happen, unless they time travel!
Last entry said: 13:26 MONTREAL Item processed at postal facility
It already cleared customs. 08:55 International item released from Customs for processing by Canada Post
Has anyone ever had something similiar and knows how long it'll take to get the package?
Thanks!

Oh lucky you, your tracking number is working !
My MALIBAL was shipped (with USPS) two days ago.. the tracking number isn't working. MALIBAL told me its because I chose the cheap provider USPS which tends to have such problems. I hope mine won't need a month to get delivered.. and I'm from Europe (Austria) :/ Can't even find out where my MALIBAL is right now. -
Oh poor you, at least I don't feel as bad ... unless you get ur laptop before me! then I'll have to come take yours!
-
haha
Well I wish you good luck with your laptop. Maybe its somewhere at the customs waiting for you to pay the custom fees?
-
Hope not ... Didn't give me a call/note or anything. It should come to the door and ask me for payment I believe...

In my experience with Canadian customers, they do require payment of taxes before it can be delivered which they will ask for at your door.
-
You'd best have your credit card ready with a balance of at least 15% of the total cost of the machine when they arrive at your door. The amount may shock you (~350 or so if it was $3000) but you'll forget all about it when you're unboxing it!
-
Seriously? They will ask for the taxes at the door? For a 2000$ laptop with 20% VAT they expect you to pay that on a random day infront of your door?
-
I'm expecting 13% for tax, local and 25$ for custom charge (I hope)
So my laptop came out to be almost 1600, so hopefully only 230-250! heh
On a side note, does anyone know if the tax is on the USD amount or CDN amount? USD was onyl 1450 ish, CDN was almost 1600 ... -

VAT is mainly only for European countries, Canada has GST, PST, and HST to worry about depending on the province.
The tax amount will be in the CDN amount of your computer
Edit: Also I think VAT needs to be paid to the customs office? -
USPS tracking numbers cannot be tracked once crossed the border into Canada.
In my sig you will see all necessary info for buying a Sager from Canada. -
I know that Canada Post, FedEx, and UPS all ask for the taxes right at the door. Be ready for it.
The only way around that is to pay them by phone by calling the carrier ahead of time. You would still need to pay by credit card but the delivery person would no longer need to ask for the money at the door.
The other option is to tell them to take it to the depot and you'll pick it up later and pay the taxes then. That is what I almost always do. -
Or am I looking at someone else's order thinking that it's mine?heh
-
@XoticPC: Yes we normally have to pay the VAT at the customs office.. that's why I hoped that MALIBAL could sent my laptop as "Repaired" or "Gift" or smth like that :/ In that case it would skip the custom office (arrives 7 days faster + I don't have to pay 400$ VAT) -

You're welcome.. and if you ever send a notebook to some customer in the EU, sent it as Gift or "Back from repair" and you will do your customer a great.. or wait.. VERY great favour
Thats what usps.com says when I track my laptop:
-
You really shouldn't ask that, their entire business could go down the drain. -
I have ordered so many laptops and other things from the US already (jewelry, 3x ray-ban glasses, some laptops, etc) and getting it sent as Gift or Repair never made any troubles. Actually the first time I received a product as "back from repair" was my first ASUS laptop 3 years ago. Back then I was wondering why it got sent as "Back from repair".. but when I then bought a pair of Diesel jeans which was sent as "normal", I realized why people send their products as gift/repair.. had to pay 50% of the costs from the diesel jeans + shipping to the customs (those 50% were ~160$). But I'm not angry at MALIBAL.. I knew that normally they should send it without gift/repair when I bought the laptop.. but still I could also have saved those 400$ VAT :/
-
Resellers can do favors for you as long as the favors reside within the boundaries of law and business..
But still yeah, $400 sounds like a huge amount.... I feel you. -
To the OP :
Could you post the price you had to pay to the UPS guy when you finally receive the laptop ?
I'm going to buy a laptop with similar price and taxes (well 13.5%) so that would be interesting to know. -
Keep in mind when you're dealing with companies in the USA, American Customs can be pretty harsh towards businesses that knowingly participate in what is functionally customs/mail fraud. The larger the business, the less likely they will be willing to take the risk that they are called to task for something like 'Signing a false declaration'. Don't hold it against Malibal or others if they aren't willing to lie to the government on your behalf.
-
When I finally get the laptop I'll include all the details in a nice long review post. No worries ... I just hope that it doesn't take a month ><
-
Thank you.
Hopefully it will be there soon
