For some reason I can only run the game at 80-120 fps when I should be getting at least 170 on my Sager NP8651/P650SE. I have a friend with the Asus GL511-ds71 which has the same specs as mine (other than the 970m of course) and he is able to run CS:GO at around 200 frames. I've benchmarked my laptop several times and all the results are normal (6500-6600 on Fire Strike). Also, I just got my machine less than a month ago and since then it has dropped from 170 frames to around 100. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Is your Clevo plugged in? Perhaps it is throttling the GPU... I mean, as long as your frame rate stays above your refresh rate it shouldn't really matter too much what your FPS is...

Is it running off of the Intel HD graphics somehow? I know I've had some games that aren't as demanding, where the system will just let the Intel run it without switching. Check the 3D settings in the Nvidia control panel, and make sure it is set to run off of the Nvidia, and not other options. Might not always be the case, but worth checking.

Yes, I've made sure it runs off of the 970m already. It's not really a big deal in terms of gameplay per se, but it's just somewhat concerning seeing the frames steadily declining.

your power option is set to high performance isnt it. weve had many over the years where this had been changed to balanced and not turned back.
also check if youve got programs running in the background while gaming that could be using graphics. -

Have you monitored your CPU + GPU utilization while in-game? Temps are okay?
-
Yes, I have. The temps range around 58-65 while playing and 50 while idling. The GPU usually remains around 40-50 when I play csgo.
I've already tried different power settings (other than power saving one for obvious reasons) and it doesn't change anything. Strange thing is I can set all my settings to the max (all texture settings high, maxed out antialiasing, and multicore rendering) and my frames don't change at all. It plays everything at a 80-120 frame range no matter what the settings are at.Last edited: Sep 16, 2015 -
Is it a problem? I consider 80-120 fps as fluent gameplay, - why do you need more frames? Do you notice the same in other games? It's probably just a driver issue.
Kind regards

Wow, that's...pretty low. Which could be good, but temps that low make me question utilization.
And have you tried another NVidia driver (a clean install of a newer - if applicable - or older version)?i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -

Are you able to run some benchmarks and post results, and temps when you are doing that as well?
-
those temps are pretty dalm good.
do you live in an igloo or a fridge
all the monitoring software you will need can be found in link below. -
That's my suspicion as well. Temperatures that low would imply quite low utilization, which would explain the lower FPS.
There's not some wacky framerate target set somewhere? -

Could be the driver version you are using, it's unlikely to be optimised for really any more.
-
I think the problem is probably under utilization of the CPU and GPU since I can pretty much take the game to its max and still run at the same frames and the fact that it's been a known problem in CS:GO for a while. Also for the temps my CPU stays around 58-65 but it goes to around 65-70 after a solid 1-2 hours of non-stop gameplay while my GPU almost never goes above 45.

That's why I suggested drivers as a potential cause.

Run GPU-Z while playing the game and tell us the usage, my bet is it's very low with temps THAT low.
