my Gpu is always on 65deg while on desktop... so its on 1 fan lower than high all the time.... how can i undervolt its so in this state it runs at like sub 60... i dont need all this gfx power just for firefox..

also will this mean it still clocks up to maximum speeds while doing some thin intensive...

Undervolting does not change clocks, so no, performance will not suffer.

I know that the nvidia system tools have an option to change the voltages, however it is not available on my card (go 7900 gs), but on the 9800m gt, it might work.

the best way to do it is by using GPU-Z and Nibitor

65*C at idle is fairly warm, Heathkidd. You may want to do routine maintenance while you're undervolting as well.

its not idle.. my laptop is never idle its just like while using the net/streaming/music/msn...

idle it prob does drop to 58-60...

my vents are all clean... possibly my thermal paste is not the best but its not that old and seems to do well enugh with max temps only reaching 75-80 under full load..

    prob just my useage/external monitor

but yer think i could drop 5dec by undervolting/downclocking my lowest state.. .and how?

Load BIOS file from GPU to Nibitor. Then change the voltages for 2D and normal 3D.Then flash it.

But make sure you know what you are doing.

If you're running an external monitor, your gpu will never drop out of its extra state, unless anyone has any fixes, that's your increase in temp right there...

ya theriko, I've been noticing that myself. Wonder what the exact source of the problem is there. Is that just driver level? or is the GPU bios saying "oh look I have something plugged into one of my external slots, better overclock to run that firefox!"

Well, the gpu is outputting twice the amout of data, so it's understandable that it doesn't run at idle 2d clocks, but it should at least be ableto downclock a bit...

It seems to be hardware level as I haven't found any way to enable powermizer with dualscreen in the drivers.

Why is your GPU so hot? What driver are you using? I have the same card as yours and mine idle temp is 46.

Are you using an external screen?

Using an external screen causes powermizer to be disabled, therefore increasing idle temperatures. My 8800M GTX idles at ~39°C in single screen mode and ~49°C in dualscreen mode.

my idle temp is like 56.......... Im far 2 active on my PC to normaly see this temp thou... its normaly 60-70.. then 70+ while gaming.

my my gpu is prob abit hotter than normal... but i would prob count that as the climate ( i live in australia...)

i guess atm i have no real fix other than thermal past/cooler then...

thats a shame really but i require the external monitor so i guess i just shoudl use safe mode...

(btw i notice safe mode downlocks with external monitor in still! so thats good)

is there any way i could get the silent mode to work in time with 2d - 3d graphics... switch rather than using the button?

ohh and BTW my external monitor is a DVi 1920x1200 LCD running at 60hurtz with all that High color stuf (its a special pro grade screen for photoshop).. i also use a Wacom tablet quite abit (but it doesnt seem to add to GPU load)

ohh im now worried about my poor laptop :(

dont use safe mode... thats just too weak.

you can do what I do, get the Nvidia System Tools, and make a new Profile in the Nvidia Control Panel.

then set the profile with the low clocks that you want, then you can switch to it if you want it to be a bit cooler and downclocked.

im talking about Silent mode (its a button on the M860tu that downclocks the CPU/GPU ) .... it still works for me with duel monitors... seen the clocks half in GPUZ...

its bios level i think.. beacuse the button responds while your booting up pre Windows... think that it could possibly be linked to the ditection of 2d or 3d power profiles... mabye by a custom bios?.... the button is above the function keys and quite anoying to press (doesnt have any Give) feels weak as well.

sigh... yer.. the M860tu has no control over its fans other than this single button... just wish i could set them to lower and still have my performance profiles function respectfully... i wouldnt mind if my gpu was 75deg all the time if it would just be quiter!>.. this hardware can stronger than Clevo think... almost makes me wish i had a ALienware(lie)

thanks for the tips thou Gophn i may make a custome downclocked profile for World of Warcraft or some thing... atm my little GPU is working abit 2 hard i think in that game in perticular.

My main concern is my Fan dieing.. i leave this laptop on close to 247.... i guess i should use silent mode more often ... my fan has already become quite noiser in the past 6months.... ill prob order some replacments i guess... im sure my fan will die before any of my hardware does this laptop is 2 keen to cool things down!

oh... ok. I though you meant Windows "Safe Mode"

Silent Mode should be fine.. then.

Yer i dont think im going to risk flashing my biso with that NIbitor program... it will prob mess up the Clevo Silent mode button..

unless any other M860tu users have done so with sucsess?.

Just want to make my life easer.. Pressing one button is just 2 hard 4 little old me

Let me test it tonight with Vista and Ubuntu and post the results.
