Upcomming power bricks

Will the upcomming refresh notebooks have smaller power bricks? I am mostly talking about the refresh of np8150 that is comming in 2012. The one it has now is way too huge, or are there smaller third party adaptors that can replace it?

I am a student and have to carry my laptop to school everyday, and I would prefer a lighter power supply. I have a np8660 and the power brick is way bigger than all my classmates power bricks. They get suprised everytime they see it. And from the pictures that I have seen, the np8150 is even bigger like 1.5x the size of the one I have now.

I don't think any information has been released yet about smaller adapters. The technology is there, but that doesn't mean that Clevo will spend money on that technology.

The 8150 requires a 180w adapter for the 100w GPUs (580m and 6990m), so while the 150w adapter might be able to charge the laptop, it should not be used for gaming/heavy load.

As for compatible third party adapters, targus does have a universal 180w adapter, but I think it's safest to use the oem adapter.

 

Also of note, some people have tried those lower power or slim adapters and had issues with them burning up the boards and/or being defective adapters (primarily the no name or generics on that one) at worst, and just not working right at best. It's highly recommended you stick with the official adapters to avoid any problems.

It seems a lot of the lighter weight adapters sacrifice the quality internals and also can't hit or sustain the same wattage that the stock models can.
