Yeah, I'd figure that the desktop chipset and CPU in the 9260 would be able to take advantage of SATA 300. That's one of the advantages of buying lappies with desktop parts.

    I'm seriously considering it.

it wont matter, like I said.

Most desktop SATAI (150MB/s) & SATAII (300MB/s) harddrives do not get to use that kind of transfer rates.

its the 7200rpm that really limits the rate for most HDDs. Only the 10,000+ rpm drives can even get near that kind of rate.

So i will not matter for a notebook since no notebook drive has yet to even reach the 100+ MB/s (which is still under the SATA I specs... let alone the SATA II)

Gotcha. So, it's simply a function of rotational speed.

yup... you wont be seeing 10k rpm drives in notebooks anytime soon... due to the extreme heat that it creates.

Thats why the HDD industry is movie toward SSD's (Solid State Drives) to get a faster response and data rate... and at the same time eliminate the heat issue (from rotations).

Looks like Gophn is right on. Here's a review of the 160GB Seagate Momentus drive offered through xotic:

    http://www.bigbruin.com/2007/momentus7200_1

A very nice review. Key points:

Average Sustained xfer rate: 49 MB/s
Average Peak xfer rate: 216 MB/s

The comparisons with the Seagate 5400 RPM drives show some very nice performance gains.

So still a great drive (I hope so because I ordered 2 of them in RAID-0 this morning!). Just not 300GB/s that you would think from the SATA-II rating.

Has there been any word on SSD's for the 9261?

Do we know what quad cores we will have to choose from?

    Thanks all!

Man, I guess that's good for me.....I was very ready to get the M570RU, only thing that kept me waiting for the 8800M. I was very ready to jump the gun and get the 8700M and update it to the 8800M at a later time. Now that there is going to be a design update I guess I'll really have to wait.

Nope, it does not have enough power to supply the quad-cores.

The difference is the support for Intel Turbo Memory (Robson)

This is exactly why once I buy a computer I stop looking at the current prices :D

Can someone explain why the QX6800 is not offered as a selection for the NP9261? If Clevo is going to branch into the quad market on a gaming focused rig that would seem logical offering.

Can someone please let me know what the most current MB revision for the 570/1RU is from Clevo, and if there is any new or additional revisions expected soon? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the QX6800 puts out to much heat for the laptop to handle.

thats BS. the p4 3.6 in my 9860 sucks in 125 watts and puts out alot more heat than the q6700.

what clevo enjoys doing is issuing a new motherboard revision for "the next step" upgrade path of something. for the first gen d900 it was a new motherboard for virtually every gpu upgrade that came out and now they are doing it with the cpu. i hate business practices like these. they really should not be claiming their laptops are upgradable.

Still would love to know what the most current MB revision of the M570/1RU is, and when or if any additional revisions are immanent.
