    Hi Guys,

The countdown for me is coming to a close.

I wanted to start a thread here to announce any updates with regards to the Clevo's with Nvidia's high end video card.

As soon as I receive mine, benchmarks and stuff will go up here.

But for now my estimated ship time to Queensland is 30th of June and then will be atleast the first week of July before I receive my laptop.

Does anyone else have an ETA for their Clevo with a GTX 680M?

Below I will post up a bunch of stock AMD 7970M Scores and will upload the GTX 680M next to them later on

My ETA is when the 3D version of the 170EM comes around, when I will most likely opt for the 680M, thus I am highly interested in this thread.

Any news on the 3d version of this laptop?

In regards to 3D, i believe that the option has popped up at XoticPC recently, but it will not be available for atleast another 4 weeks.

Though, i have been looking into the 120hz 3D screen that was offered on the P170HM3 before, I was thinking that might be a good alternative.

I wonder if it will have optimus, i dont think there has ever been a laptop with 3d and optimus.

No, it won't have optimus, but I am pretty sure it will still pull 2 hours on a charge. Which is more than enough for me.

I have 2 batteries for my current laptop and they are enough to do my work during those long trips.

By the way, batteries are at Clevo something like $50 each, but resellers charge an arm and a leg for one.

It's the first thing you read on the Nvidia site.
Plus read the supported technologies on the left.
So according to the manufacturer, yes, it does have optimus.

Yes, the card has Optimus, but as far as some resellers have wrote here, it will be disabled on the 3D models.

I'm very curious how this card performs as well. I went with the 7970 though, and extra $300 was tough to swallow for an unknown benefit right now.

Oh, the $300 is completely unjustifiable unless you want to use 3d vision, you got the right card, no worries. The 680M will be at most 5% faster than the 7970M. I also expect the price of the 680M to go down a bit after 1st of July.

You can technically use 3D with the 7970m you simply need a 3rd party 3D converter, for instance some of the Samsung screens that are 7 and 9 series has a built in technology for 2D to 3D conversion.

But yes the 3D technology with nvidia is much better so I personally went with that. Also even if the 170em gets a 3D capable screen its most likely not going to have light boost which from what I've read without it the colours are going to be beyond dark and dull, probably better off investing in a external monitor.

I've actually read through the whole 7970m vs 680m thread, it gave me so many headaches... this cards better, this cards cheaper, this card can do this do that.

I just wanted this thread here for when a CONSUMER receives a card we can post up legit scores unlike the scores on legitreviews and notebook check, though I have seen the scores with the MSI GT70 Laptop, that is with a 3920XM processor which gives a slight advantage, I would like to see the scores with a more reasonable cpu such as the 3610 or the 3720 quad mobile.

So far my prediction is either ~500 points difference in 3Dmark vantage and ~300 points difference in 06 and ~200 points difference in 11.

Though we will have to wait and see the difference in real world performance in games.

    Strange...
Looks like some games faster with AMD than Nvidia and vice-versa.

    Link here:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-680M.72679.0.html
    Yikes MaxPayne3 - 46% faster with 7970m
    COD MW3 - 7970M -14% slower than 680M
    Battlefield 3 - 3% difference between two
    Batman - 3% advantage to 680M
    Crysis 2 +15% advantage to 680M
    Metro 2033 - +11% advantage to 7970M
    Diablo 3 - 680M 27% faster than 7970m

    Alienware users posting this:
    3DMark 11
    7970M: P5600
    GTX 680M: P6282

    Diablo 3:
    Ultra, everything maxed
    7970M: 100.8FPS
    GTX 680M: 138FPS

    Skyrim:
    Ultra High
    7970M: 55.6FPS
    GTX 680M: 72FPS
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/672130-first-review-alienware-m17x-gtx-680m.html#
Looks like it's a tiit-4-tat competition. If the 7970m is cheaper then why go 680M? Seems like a recurrence of 6990m v 580M war.
    I prefer AMD :)

I'm just curious where are you getting your numbers from? For instance where are you getting that 46% difference in max payne?

Currently until users get there hands physically on the card we have no guarantee of knowing whether the performance is true or not. Especially with notebook check, I don't trust that site for gaming performance whatsoever.

Multiple sites and reviewers listing one number over another, this is a poor way of judging card vs. card.

Very true, they might run at difference resolutions etc. they don't always confirm every testing environment they test in, so we all have to wait for user tests, hopefully me :p

clevo should have that option to.

My Malibal Satori P170EM order with the 680M switched to a status of "processed" last Friday. Although I don't know what that status means, it is at least movement.

As far as the "7970 vs 680m" side discussion, I paid the price simply because I am loyal to Nvidia due to some horrible past ATI/AMD issues (which seems to still be the case looking at that wonderful mega thread on the 7970 failures), and I wanted a kepler chip that I wouldn't need to upgrade. $500 is a reasonable amount to pay for a graphics card mobile or otherwise which is at or close to the top of the benchmarks. The 7970 is a bargain, but to each their own.

that's good to know that people outside of the Alienware M17x or M18x orders are seeing some movement on their orders, but it seems to be mostly with the 17 inch laptops. Is there some known issue with 680M on 15 inch that's why there are no movements on those order? Anyone with XoticPC is getting update on their order with 680M?

Lots of threads at the top of the list today from those that had 0 issues with the 7970 and love the card, focus on the positives I say, it will be a better world. The gripe thread I was referring to was just the 7970 owners thread titled "Update on Radeon 7970m (Sager/Resellers)" at 217 pages, when I was considering the card, the 25 or so pages back I had enough time to read were backorder/heat/performance/enduro issues.

However, asked Malibal for an update this morning, got a response in about 2 minutes:

"You have 680M which is a preorder, they are due to arrive early next week, so your laptop will ship shortly after that."

    Fingers crossed.
