I bought a Sager 5760 a little over two years ago. It still has the original BIOS that came with it (version NAPA0001.86C.00, 5/18/2006). I would like to upgrade the BIOS to whatever the latest version is (is there a newer version for the 5760?). How do I go about getting the BIOS, as Sager does not make it available for download on their site? Do I email their tech support?

if you contact Sager support and give them your serial #, they will email you the latest BIOS update.

    tell us how it goes.

I notice Sager's tech support form requires that you provide an Invoice Number. Where do I find this? I still have the original box that my computer arrived in, but it's over two years old so I'm not sure they would even have this info on file anymore.

you do not need the invoice number.

they just need the serial #

The newest bios version is 1.00.06, what version is yours? If you have the diagnostics screen on during boot, just press pause and it should be at the top of the first screen, otherwise press f2 to get into the bios and it should be at the bottom of the first page.

In order to get you the right version of the bios I need to know if you have the synaptics touchpad or the elantech one.

Also what version of the kbc/ec firmware have you got? There might be a newer version of this too.

I don't see any BIOS version info when I load up the BIOS, I just see a "VBIOS" version number; but that has to do with the NVIDIA video card.

WinXP's System Info utility reports the BIOS as being "NAPA0001.86C.00, 5/18/2006".

Oh. In all the time I've had this computer I've never bothered to disable the BIOS splash screen before.

After disabling it it appears as though I'm running BIOS version 1.00.00s. So I am running an old BIOS.

Also, I'm using the Elantech touchpad.

Forgot to add, KBC/EC is version 1.00.01 T2.

    What does KBC/EC stand for?

    Thanks.

I have to ask though, I know my notebook is a Clevo; but is it safe to update using a BIOS downloaded from the Clevo site, rather than from Sager's website? Just being paranoid, :)

Also, where on Clevo's site did you find those files? I went to Clevo's download site and selected "M57xU" as the model number, and "All", but I don't see any BIOS files listed in the results.

Also, I notice the BIOS requires a floppy drive in order to flash it. What if I don't have a floppy drive?

Yes, the Clevo BIOS is the most stable... and Sager usually will send you the Clevo BIOS when you ask for it.

OK, I managed to flash the BIOS using a bootable CDRom. Everything went smooth.

Next question, how do I update the KBC/EC firmware? There are no instructions included in the .zip file.

    same thing.

use a bootable CD or bootable flash drive.

I believe that the command to updare the kcb/ec is "updateEC" as opposed to "refresh" for the bios

    I have versions:
    1.00.04 Bios w/ elantech
    1.00.04 kbc/bc

It seems the links are broken. Would you mind refreshing them?

Here are some alternate links. The original ones should still work, the servers are probably busy.

here is the 1.00.06 elantech bios
here is the latest (also 1.00.06) kbc firmware
