I pre-ordered the NP5796 and I am going to greatly revise my order. So, I was wondering if I select the NP5796 with 2Gb DDR3 RAM, can I buy a single 2Gb DDR3 stick (for example: Corsair or Kingston brand) for upgrade to 4Gb in a year or so and expect it to work? Or might there be compatibility issues?

    Thanks

They need to be identical, so you would have to buy a 4gb kit.

Actually I am reading some stuff that says you CAN mix and match brands. So I think you're answer might be incorrect but maybe I am wrong. Can someone verify this?

Oh what i was talking about was that if you want DDR to work you need identical ram.

Not sure about if you don't mind it not working.

Well I meant I would get the NP5796 with 2Gb DDR3 and then buy another 2Gb DDR3 in a year. The DDR wouldn't work?

Yep that im sure of if you buy 2 gigs now and then buy a different 2 gig in a year DDR will not work.

Why not if both sticks are DDR3?

Isn't that like saying if you have 2 different branded DDR2 sticks then the DDR2 wouldn't work?

Ya if you have two different branded sticks of ram then you wont get Dual data rate. Notice how on newegg or any other website their are kits for 4gig and 2gigs for DDR, and how Sager/xotic/pnb offer 2sodimms and 1sodimm choices for the same amount ram. The 2 sodimms is so that you can get ddr. I guess you could try calling sager as they would probably have the same ram they used.

They only use 2 SODIMMS for Dual Channel I believe, not DDR.

If you pre-ordered the NP5793 with the free upgrade to 4GB then your NP5796 will also come with 4GB, unless you want to cancel your pre-order and just order the NP5796 at current pricing.

Sweet, and is that a free upgrade from 2Gb DDR3? So, the pricing of the laptop would be as if it had 2Gb DDR3?

    Thanks

BTW, that was one of the questions I asked in an e-mail I sent you Paladin. Thanks a bunch.

Edit: Also, Paladin I think on your website the configuration for the CPU for the NP5796 may be incorrect. You have the P8300 as 2.4Ghz but on XoticPC's site it is called a P8600.
