    Hey Guys,

I am looking to upgrade my hard drive (see sig) I want a 500GB at least, 7200RPM.

Any suggestions? Can my System support dual hard drives or just one?

    Thanks!

The Hitachi 7k500 is probably the best choice out there currently.

The 5793 only has 1 HDD slot if I recall correctly.

I swear by Western Digital, not because of raw speed or capacity, but because every WD drive I've had has never failed in less than 5 years. I would suggest the Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200 RPM drive. It's done me well as a boot drive, and now it faithfully serves as storage/games drive.

Most users would probably go for the 7k500 when it comes to performance. WD doesn't have a 7200 500GB 2.5" drive out yet, and the Seagate, which was the earliest 7200 500GB drive has received multiple complaints.

As you can see, while there are many positive reviews, approximately 30% of the reviews rank it at 2 eggs or less. I went with the 7k500, due to the negative experiences shared about the 7200.4. I believe Seagate updated the firmware, but it would seem that issues are still ongoing.

I replaced my original Seagate 200GB 7200RPM with this HDD, and it runs great. One thing I noticed it that my old Seagate ran way-way hotter than the WD does, at the same RPM. I don't know about newer models, but I am going to steer clear of Seagate in the future. Installing the WD even lowered the rest of my notebook's temps. Bottom line: Its a biased and far from scientific result, based on only two HDDs, but it seems WDs run cooler than Seagates.

I did exactly the same thing in Jan '09 and have been very pleased with said WD Scorpio Black 320GB (with free fall sensor - used once, I almost killed the dog...)

I've purchased 4 of the Seagate 7200 RPM 500 GB drives and have no problems with any of them in 2 different machines.
    Running 3 in a RAID0 right now.

You also have my vote for Hitachi drives.

Yeah, I got the BJKT as well, it was only 3 bucks more than the non-freefall sensor BEKT when I got it last last Sep. Best HDD I have ever owned. Can't wait for WD to release a 500GB 7200rpm, they are way lagging behind Seagate, but I know its because they want to do it RIGHT.

Throw up a new topic here in a few months if this raid setup is still running with no problems. Also, what temps are your HDD's showing during full sustained load? They are wicked fast lappy HHD's in Raid0!

RAID volumes won't be able to show temperatures...

Shouldn't HDD Thermometer be able to see the temp of each physical drive independently? That's what I was thinking.

AFAIK no utility can see through firmware raid, or at least not on the clevo systems, many have tried.
