Is it possible to upgrade the internal sound card on the NP9150? I got the stock version and the treble is very crisp and clear but the bass response is complete turd. I don't really want to get an external one but if there isn't any options, then I guess I'll have to go with an external set.

No as it's integrated into the motherboard, the solution that worked for me was to use 5.1 headset.

You'll have to get a USB sound card or headset like hackness.

dang it
oh well. thanks for the info!
-
I heard something about installing THX or something in an older thread. Verify that because i think it makes it sound fantastic.
-
Excuse my ignorance but isn't a headphone still using the integrated sound card and headphone jack?
-
this might be true but depending on the headset it might have built in drivers to adjust the audio...
-
The thing with the integrated sound card in the NP9150 is that there's no bass when using it in 2.0 mode. However this problem can be over come when you use it in 5.1/7.1 mode, LFE signal is only output through the subwoofer jack in the NP9150.

I also have issues with bass, but it comes in the form of a very obnoxious buzz from the speakers whenever bass is required. It is awful and obnoxious to the ears. Treble is awesome and clear but i'm seriously thinking of contacting my reseller because of how the bass sounds like it overburdens the speakers. Nothing I've tried works, other than setting the speakers on full treble, which makes the speakers sound awful. I start noticing this buzz on more than 1/2 volume too.

@ Hubmaster, that sounds like you have faulty speakers. It is a good idea to do as you said and contact the reseller.
-
by the way hackness what do you use in the sager np9150 for better sound quality, is it headphones or sound card and of what kind?
-
I just purchased a creative x-fi go. For the size it makes a pretty substantial difference

Headset with some tweaking in THX panel and room correction.
The headset I got is Tritton pc510 HDa. This headset already has a very strong bass on its own. So I had to lower the crossover frequency to 40Hz so it doesn't vibrate too much when it comes to LFE.
For crystalizer I set it to 65%, this setting depends on the headset types you use, also I prefer punchier sound. Also Speaker is enabled.
I also adjusted the volume for each speaker in Realtek's room correction tab. As I only wanted frequency that's lower than 40Hz to be played through the subwoofer, at 40Hz the bass gets a little weak, so I boosted the subwoofer to +6 dB in room correction tab.
Rear channels are lowered by 2 dB and Center channel is increased by 2 dB to emphasise the center channel and avoid confusion when all 6 channels are played.
With my current setup when it comes to guitar and knocking sound, it sounds pretty real. -
@hackness I have a tritton AX Pro and I was wondering what you do to plug in the mic because the mic jack is used for the 5.1 sound?
-
Well you have to choose one, 5.1 with on board mic or stereo with headset mic, or external usb mic with 5.1/7.1.
-
great thanks
-
i recommend this, Newegg.com - SYBA SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter, i posted it in your thread but i dont think you saw it.
-
THANK YOU. But for the crossover on the THX settings i'd just set it all the way down to 10hz... You get the best bass response.
-
No not in 5.1/7.1 mode, 10Hz only works for 2.0 mode. And it basically means you are not gonna use the subwoofer and have 11Hz~80Hz LFE zone played on other small speakers.
-
weird cause when i set it to 10hz i get more bass
-
You should check if the bass came from the subwoofer or the directional speakers
. Crossover 10Hz means frequency under 10Hz will only be sent to the subwoofer, common speakers can't even produce 10Hz as they are rated 20Hz - 20000Hz.
-
well im running a steelseries siberia v2 which is only 2 channels... that prob why? hahahah
-
Yep. Your headset is 2.0 and doesn't have a subwoofer that's why lowering the crossover frequency helped and steelseries siberia v2 is capable of performing 10 - 28000Hz. So basically all 11 - 28000Hz is available to your headset to play in stereo mode.

I was having the same issue, and wondering why the sound was so much better on my old crappy Toshiba on the same (standard, cheap, effective Sony) headphones. I think it's the THX surround settings, they aren't good for headphones. Turn the surround all the way down and turn that crisper thing on the low side and adjust your volume up. This fixed it for me.
