    Hi,

I am looking to get more power from my laptop or buy a new one. I currently own a Clevo P150SM-A which has the Prema bios and a GTX 970m. I've been doing research and can see that the GTX 1070 should work in my laptop. I am looking at a few of the smaller form factor 1070's on ebay from China at around £300. It should be a straight swap with no case mods needed. I could get at least £120 I'd say for my 970m as it has the Prema vBios on it so is unlocked.

    Here's the card I'm looking at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Nvid...886342?hash=item56f05e1a06:g:O4cAAOSwhe9eFcxU

My other option is purchasing a new/used laptop for around £700 with the RTX 2060. From what I can see the 1070 and 2060 have pretty similar performance. Is that actually true?

Is there anyone here who has updated their laptop with a 1070 and could share their experience and maybe a few benchmark scores? My Clevo is pretty quiet and I've heard a Legion 5 Y540 laptop and they get so loud!

I'm also worried my 180w power supply won't be enough as my cpu is the i7-4710mq which has an undervolt.

Any help would be great. I'm so confused!

    Thanks!

That card will need some 100-110W, plus the CPU, RAM, storage, display and battery charging you need to go for a 230W PSU.

Since RTX30xx laptops are hitting the market, a discount 2070 would be the best bet, unless you have a lot of emotional attachment to the Clevo.

The question I have is that in the end the 1070 upgrade could cost me only £150 after selling my 970m. Where as if I purchase a new laptop I don't think I'll get THAT much back for my Clevo. Maybe I need to see what options I have for a 230w power supply. I love the look and feel of the Y540 Legion laptops though and they are so light! Those fans though, wow like a jet engine which I know is the norm for newer gaming laptops as they are slimmer.

Doubt that someone will pay you 150£ for a 970m. The difference in CPU, storage, interface, much longer battery life should also be considered.

There are more laptops than the Lenovos, HP Omen series has decent cooling, and wont sound like a jet engine.

You can check the completed listings on eBay to get a good idea on price you will get for it.

Yeah from the looks of things is around £120 which is ok.

I just love the cooling on this p150sm-a. CPU stays soo cool and same with my 970m. I'm just confused on whether to buy a new laptop with bad thermals and risk getting worse performance than a 1070 with good cooling.

Do you have experience of 1070s in these clevo laptops? Do they perform well?

2060 trumps the 1070, also factor in dlss for future games.

Factor the fact that not all 1070 perform the same, those black PCB 1070 will be 100W variants, more or less, and keep in mind that they are no name GPUs, no guarantee that it will last.

You want some decent VRMs on there.
