Upgrade P870KM1- 60Hz to 120Hz QHD - What's required?

Hi guys, to go from a 60Hz to a 120HZ QHD, do i simply need a replacement screen ?

Will the EDP cable be okay to use?

Also to carry out the procedure, is it a case of simply removing the screen bezel and swapping them over

Same procedure - just with the panel being different.

TL;DR you can't reuse the 30 pin/2 lane cable, you need the upgraded 40pin/4 lane one, and a full disassembly to get to where it plugs on the mainboard.

 

Is this for the 1440p model?

Yes @bennyg is correct. A 1440p 120hz screen will work ONLY on a 4 lane 40 pin edp connector as it takes up the same bandwidth as the 4k panel...

 

However there is a certain 1080p 144hz panel that can work on 30 pin with degraded colour reproduction. (Basically looks like trash compared to a normal 1080p panel)

It's a pain to swap out the cable but possible.

 

Yeah it's the heap ton of screws that discourage me

Otherwise its fairly simple to open.

 

Generally the easiest way is to sort them into the pattern they go in on each layer and take pictures as you go.
