    Hi,

I have been searching the forum for sometime seeking an answer for my question without success.

My Sager/Clevo started showing age...recently I had to bake the GPU GTX485 to get it back working. Now, Im thinking to buy a replacement GPU before its completely dead.

After some reading, the max GPU for P170HM is the GTX680, which is somewhat expensive to me and need to have the right vbios out of the box. so, I searched for GTX 580 and GTX 675, and found some candids on ebay and Aliexpress.

The issue is that most cards are Dell/Alienware which have different vbios than the Clevo.

My question, will those Dell cards work on the p170hm out of the box?...would the p170hm POST with these cards with their OEM vbios? (so its possible to blind flash).

    Thank you

    Note: I have 3D screen.

While there are some rare exceptions with that generation you need a clevo card.

I would agree with that, it is best to look for a Clevo card. It might take a little more searching, but might be better if you don't have to worry about possible compatibility issues.

I've only read of a couple of instances when end users were able to make it work. The prevailing wisdom is that a Clevo card is ideal, as often times a Dell/Alienware card will not work.

Definitely glad to help out. It's good to see a model still going strong after 5 years!

If you want, you can check in with our support team, and they should be able to help out with getting a compatible upgrade for you. At least you could get a price from us that you might be able to compare while shopping around.

But if there is anything I can do to help, just let me know!

Did you ever get your GTX 680 card and upgrade? I just bought an Alienware and I am selling my Sager P170HMx laptop so I might be of some help providing guidance. I did the Clevo GTX 680 4gb card upgrade, added a 256 SSD, and a 500gb second HDD. I have flashed the BIOS and the vBIOS as well. I am currently sending this reply from that machine. I will help you out on flashing and upgrading if you need some help. I have saved the files and currently am running the NVIDIA 393.02 video driver as well and it is running smoothly. So just let me know and I will provide as much help as I can.

    Hi guys,
Having the same problemishes like the op.
Clevo p 170hm with a cooked radeon 6990 card. What would be my cheapest options for a new gpu card? And I'm a total noob at modding it. I mean flashing a new bios and stuff.
Also if anyone from Belgium or arround is willing to sell one, pm me.
    Thanks a lot.

The Dell cards dont work from my understanding of this. Yes with the proper card you can blind flash
I did that with a simple block of instruction. I found a 4 gig 680 gtx and put it in my old Sager which I still have and am selling. I hope this helps.

What precisely are you selling? The whole laptop or just the card?

It will be on ebay in a few days as it is not sociably correct to try and sell here. That is not my intent. Just here to help.....

Success my friend! I wouldn't buy another one anyway... I'm just trying to fix mine. Otherwise I might sell pieces out of it... I already bought another one so... I'm just annoyed that it has to stay on a shelf doing nothing...
